Translating your website question

Has anyone of you gone down the route of translating an existing website?
As a bi-lingual I have to be thinking about translating my site into Dutch at some point. Just not entirely clear how I would do it.

If I did it and put it up on a. NL domain would Google think it's a copy and not rank it?
Would making a Dutch subdomain be the way forward? What effect would that have on the site?

Any ideas/experience on this?

Treated as a completely different site.. so you can use the same content translated in your own language.. Subdomain or Subpage is best and there is no need to use a hreflang tag either

I would use sub domain if you don't have a big budget. But if you have extra money - buy domain with TLD extension. And of course don't ever think about translating your content with google translate or yandex translator!!

If you put it on a seperate site with the country tld then you're have a better chance of ranking that site as opposed to something off a subfolder. Although doing this means that you'll have to optimise it and build its authority from scratch, whereas if you had it on subfoler, subdomain you'd get the associated authority passed through from the main domain.There's pros and cons of each. If you're looking to go international and target a wider array of countries then its easier managed by subdomain or subfolder. It's dependent on your goal and long term strategy

I really think you should read and make yourself an expert on this topic before proceeding. I was so scared of google, that I re-wrote my articles from Romanian to English and changed domain names when I moved - just to know for sure what I was doing (better from zero than a penalty). It`s tricky, you don`t know what can happen.

casino.org is in several different languages.. Maybe 20+ ? I doubt they hired a translator for each one.. Maybe they did, idk.. But whatever they did seems to be working very well for them..

Yes, definitely try to hire translator, even you are bilingual, time is money..
