    Default UK-based hosting suggestions

I'm looking for two different UK based hosting suggestions that are similar in nature to Vidahost's cloud hosting in terms of cost, features, support, and reliability.

Feel free to drop affiliate links if you can also offer a personal testimony of some sort in regards to the above in your post.

    Cheers

I use Vidahost too - definitely the best I've found so far. TSO Host do a very similar thing, but they're actually the same company with the same data center, so that's probably not what you're looking for.

Xilo are really good and worth checking out, although no cloud hosting if memory serves.

I use these guys ezpzhosting.co.uk and they are spectacularly good. I moved from rackspace a year ago, halved my hosting costs and was expecting a lower level of service, but its just as good if not better - highly recommended.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but I use krystal.co.uk,a host someone here with a few big websites recommended to me. I have been with them for over a year now and I am very satisfied. I don't think it's expensive, but even if they were, the customer support is so good and fast, that it's all worth it.

I've never had uptime problems, anything that I needed changed was done quite fast and since we are almost in the same time-zone there's always someone online (even at lame ours like 4am).

I use Krystal.co.uk. Know the guys that run it personally and I can say their support is second to none.

Ok, I can give my two cents on this topic but only the other way, sorry.

I have 9 websites on a bulk account with Streamline.net, UK based hosting. I opened the account 7 years ago so more or less after all this time I have a clear idea of their running standards. From the bottom of my heart I really feel to shout you and everyone is reading a BIG warning, stay far from them and don't do the mistake to put one of your websites there. Customer service is a total disaster, hosting service is very poor. Google "Streamline.net reviews" or something like that to see how things are going. One day, when I'll have time, I'll migrate the mini-network somewhere else.

    Hope this helps

BTW, I have sites on krystal and evohosting too - not done enough with them to be able to vouch, but what I've seen so far has been good.

I'd seriously look at moving to vidahost - they'll do the transfers for you (for free).

Thank you to everyone who has provided feedback. I currently use Vidahost and am extremely happy with them.

As mentioned/hinted, I'm looking for a second and third option for other projects in the interest of diversification.

I use a few firms and I cant give a resounding vote of confidence to any of them. Easyspace is the main one. They have improved, but what really annoys me is they tend to jack the price up heavily on renewal which keeps me swapping around their deals more than I would like. I would not put you off their hosting, but they are expensive for domain names (but may lure you in with cheap deals in the first year). On the other side of the coin I found 123-reg.co.uk excellent for domain names, and good value and fair on renewals but their hosting (particular shared hosting) is poor. I had to move a wordpress site away from them. It was diabolically slow and they would not accept their shared hosting for wordpress (advertised as such) was not giving enough resources to wordpress to make it workable. One other company I would mention that I have had dealings with is dataflame - gone down hill and now poor and support is diabolical and there is no telephone support. They are the only hosting company that has ever actually given me a sleepless night. If you sleep too well, they may be for you.

(not UK hosting) I've had sleepless nights due to Register dotcom's hosting AND with the domains I bought through them. That company is a joke.

I've also pulled my hair out thanks to 1&1 web hosting. They kept sending me notice of non-payment, so I followed the instructions, verifying payment information, & telephoning them to inform them of payment. While on the phone, I was told "payment processed & received, thank you" - even getting confirmation number read to me - only the payment was not processed. Then, I'd get notice of non-payment, hosting locked, and I'd have to go through the process again (5 times last year). Turned out to be a glitch on their end (#obviously). Fortunately, I was not hosting any big money sites there but is totally not the point.

Other hosts I've had headaches with is Heart - great support, but their servers seem to be down more than they're up. Have also used HostGator - won't go that route again either.
