    Default Do you use emojis?

    Hey,

I often see how people recommend using emojis in titles and descriptions and how that can positively improve ctr.
So I wanted to ask whether anyone has experimented with this, comparing your ctr before and after adding emojis for some considerable amount of time.

This definitely increases the CTR if you are in the top 5 positions. It looks more attractive and beautiful, so there is a chance that more people will click.

Depends if you want to look professional or not.
    I wouldn't do it personally.

As a user I find it annoying. I can see why it could increase CTR though depending on the site and terms.

People using it in email subjects are the worst though.

Has the total opposite effect on me personally, I would deliberately not click a title with an emoji. Younger people have different attitudes though so I can see why it works, not for me though.

I see a lot and wondered this also... As a user I find then unprofessional and childlike.. but I guess they can help ctr as other people like them. On my sites I don't use them personally tho sometimes I use plain symbols like the 'play' sign to make things a bit more interesting

I think it's OK to use them here and there on-page but in a reasonable amount and places.
But not in the titles, for sure. It just looks silly.

We have found a positive correlation with the use of emojis in certain domains/markets. Obviously, it varies depending on the age profile. Personally, I don't like them, but there are many modern things I do not like! Best bet is to do some A/B testing and see what kind of results you get

I don't like them at all, as when you make title, or descriptions with them, it just looks unprofessional. Also when I see an email with the emojis in the subject, that email goes to trash straight away.

Emojis on social media yes; emojis on anything remotely professional no.

I don't like idea of having emojis at the site. IMHO, it doesn't help with CTR too.

As for me it depends on a few things.
At first it's target market (Japanese players like animation, pictures and emojis but Germans don't).
Secondly, your positions. It top-10 I would recommend to use it as it's really impact CTR, but if you are further than top-10 it's only waste of time.
At third, the exact webpage. For blog posts/news it's not a bad idea, for landings.. depending on the topic.

Overall I would suggest to test it on your market. Choose 10-15 pages, test it and see the result.

You can put emojis in your H1s all day...

Google is NOT going to show them in the SERPs unless your page is about CTR: Emoji SERP Google Title SnippetGet Emoji In SERP ...

    \

Why do you ask? Because Google only shows emoji's that are relevant to the page. And Fire and Thumbs Up, and all that other **** is not relevant to gambling searches.

Source: I tried it extensively :P

EDIT: Even the GPWA sub scrubbed the Emoji's from my example :P :P

Google shows emojis in titles and that's for sure, but not on everyone's site.
I know some guys that manage somehow to make them appear, but it's only for short time and Google removes them.

However, those who monitor SERPS know that there is one who ranks in positions between 7-1 in almost all geo's on the planet for "best" and "top" casino keywords should have noticed that there are emojis right in its title.

At times, Google doesn't even show his page description but instead pulls 4 keywords of the page with emojis next to each and also his affiliate links that take straight to a casino.

OK, so what is the point exactly? You just proved mine.

Google doesn't show them unless they are relevant and even then, the chances are very slim and the duration, if at all, is extremely short.

    Google doesn't like emoji spam.

The point? It's not 100% true what you wrote up there in your first post, and you seemed very convinced that it's not possible for sites to have them unless you're emojipedia.

Buy the way there are emojis, that are directly related to gambling plus many with a very close relation.

That's why i said, some manage to get it done, get away, and remain in the top.

Some others even stick those big smileys with red hearts right in their URL, above the title in SERP, and no probs too.

However, during the last 6 months, I guess Google was trying to do something about it, because SERP

was turning into a **** pit. Now it's much cleaner.

It's still easily done if you put, for example, a green tick box in descriptions.

It personally worked for me but seemed like rankings started to drop and I removed it.

None of those emojis show up in real searches with anything approaching a frequency above 1%.

    Don't believe me? Try it.

And get outside of your own Google Search Bubble to test it. The Emojis do NOT show up in the Titles. I don't care if it is a soccer article on a soccer website with a soccer ball in the title... not gonna display for the average searcher.

    Google ignores the emojis.

There are studies out there of what emojis do show, and they are few and far between.

The green checkmarks themselves, which I use, show less than 1% of the time in SERPS.

    They are USELESS for SERPS.

There may be other reasons to use them, but that is not what this discussion is about. Frankly, we spent so much time implementing them I don't feel like wasting time pulling them back out, which is why we still have them lol

I don't mean to be too combative, but my experience is the opposite of yours. Emojis do not show in SERPS unless your article is about Emojis!

Putting an emoji in the URL doesnt work either, I have yet to see a single page like that ranking for anything... period.

And since the number of Emoji filtered searches in Google (did you know you can do this!?) is almost non-existent, adding emojis to URLs is a wasted effort.

Yes, no emojis in SERP at all, its all mirage...

But speaking on a serious note, SERPS are much cleaner at the moment because Google seems like has taken measures. I saw posts on other sites regarding this too, and people are saying it's happening not only on Google but other search engines as well.

The image above by the way has been taken a month ago. I took it from my own post on GPWA here.

There are still few emojis about, especially on google.ca, if you type in high traffic keywords, but significantly less than before.

That smiley with two big hearts in someone's URL I saw in google.ca as well, but today looks like that site together with the smiley is gone lol.

To be honest, i'm happy about that, because there was a time when in the top 10 four sites had emojis in their titles, but my one didn't. And i certainly knew that my site is losing because of that. Now, my traffic is much better because everyone up there looks equal.

At the time was reading an article on Hubspot about a study of emojis which said that a green square box with a tick in the middle is the best emoji that attracts click. That's true, i reckon as the green colour symbolizes good luck, health, success etc.

So, then i tried to put it at the end of one of my titles but it never worked for me, and i simply gave up and never tried again.

However, Google didn't get to the descriptions yet as it's done easy.

Out of curiosity yesterday, I put one and it showed up within a half hour.
That shield must have a relation to safety in Google eyes, plus i have "Safe" right next to it. We will see how long it will stay there until Google kicks it out hahh.

Possibly Google prefers only certain emojis, and also sites.

Despite my best efforts, it didn't let me put a country flag.

But later i noticed that on SERP no country flag emojis at all.

All those crazy serps from your post a month ago are not ranking in page 1 anywhere that I can find. They also are being removed for being spam sites, as they are all cloned crap sites that do not last long before the algo nukes them.

Emoji's in Titles are NOT something that works IMHO.

The green checkbox did show a lot, but it too is being nuked because of overuse.
