Default URL Shorteners and Tracking Links

If I need to shorten a tracking link because it is too long and it messes up the site when I use it, can I use a URL shortener like bit.ly on it or will that make the tracking code not work properly? I want my site to look good but I also want to get the credit for sending the player.

And if anyone uses Joomla here and can answer my question about why the tracking link appears in parenthesis on the news section instead of being hidden would be greatly appreciated.

The tracking link stays. It doesn't mess up the code at all.

About the joomla question, did you fix that?

Joomla has a feature for cloaking links - weblinks. I think it comes as standard with the joomla installation, if not then it might have been part of a plug in - probably sh404SEF - I can't remember!

Should be under "components" in your joomla back end.

Gambling Domains: Small clear out of some of the domains we've been hoarding on Dan - see the list here. Prices negotiable, and willing to swap for decent links.

I would be wary of using bit.ly for gambling related links. The Lybian government is on a morals crusade and you may find your links no longer work after a while.

Some interesting thoughts here, I was chatting to an affiliate recently regarding his use of twitter.

He was experimenting with posts with full URL's and shortened ones.

Although, as mentioned here, tracking seemed to be carried through, the affiliate did wonder whether there was an discernible SEO positive/negative effect when using full/shortened URL's

Does anyone have any ideas on that?
