It's very long yes, but my alerts inbox has been buzzing about this topic for weeks now and I didn't understand it myself, my partner knew a bit about it and put a ton of effort into compiling this and doing the research. I searched the forum to see if there was any discussion on this topic but found none, so I thought it would be a useful topic. Like me, if you aren't into esports this is a confusing situation for sure.

It is a rather lengthy article and there certainly was a lot of research that went into it.

The original post could have used a quote from the article or at least a general summary of what kinds of information the article would provide.

    It's fairly simple:

1.) Skins in CSGO allow weapon customization without improving performance
2.) These can be purchased via the steam market place, dropped from leveling up, opened from cases
3.) Rarer skins are worth more 'money' on the steam market place
4.) Sites appeared letting people purchase /sell the skins for real money circumventing the Steam Guidelines.
5.) Whilst the game has a strong professional competitive scene, underage players make up the majority of the player base
6.) Steam allowed users access to 3rd party sites to gamble these skins
7.) Unregulated these sketchy sites sprang up and offered gambling to minors
8.) Community high profile figures pushed viewers to use these sites without disclosing their relationship to the site (owners)
9.) Promoted underage gambling, then rigged the system so that they won.

Illegal Gambling site owners rig bets to steal from underage bettors - Could be a headline I suppose.

Here is a more scannable article that explains the situation in simple terms:
