I disagree with that statement, i think it's kinda backwards.

rather:
Google is the most important tool for reputation management, failure to understand it, means you won't be able to effective use it to manage a crisis.

i would say something like this (if i wanted to make a big statement):
Google is more than a search engine, it's the most important market too and channel for online business.

Google works like a search engine but the truth is that Google is not like others currently available!

Google is indeed a reputation management system and reputation is Google's Key Element when giving a website value and choosing where they should be placed when searches are performed....

Search Engine Optimization really isn't new. To get one's name out there, to get on the almighty first page of Google, and to direct traffic to one's Web site isn't new either; it's the lengths to which we all now go

People need to realise that these days reputation is everything in Big G's eyes and failing to pick up on this point will mean webmasters are spending countless hours putting in hard work on old techniques and not get any further success etc!

Google now measure a websites reputation for example who you are partnered with, twitter (who you friends are), Google profile (who you associated with) and many more similar things!!!

Reputation is currently being used by Google and will be their main Key element among others......

For this reason many websites who did have a great Google position have dropped back and the websites with better reputation have gone forward!

Just to confirm that Google has actually announced that they have been using Reputation as one of their key elements since Nov 09 and they continue to use it in the future!

There are also several SEO experts that have been talking about all this!

Its now a FACT that this is the way Google is working so it is no perception....
