    Default Website help needed

    Hi Everyone.

After lurking in the background for a while have decided to join! Great forum by the way!

I'm after a bit of advice and apologies in advance if this comes across as stupid!

I currently have a website that is live, however it is on Wix and I want to redesign it and move it over to Wordpress. i have just purchased a flytonic theme and want to install it on wordpress and design my site basically.

I've been told that to do this I need hosting and a domain. I already have a domain but it is on my Wix site what I want to do is leave that site as it is until my wordpress site is ready to go then just switch the domain name to the wordpress site.

    What's my best option?

Thanks in advance for any help! I'm clueless about this!

    Few options for doing this:

    1. Temporary URL's - Get a web host that allows you to access the new wordpress through temporary URL. Then build the site and switch the domain when you're ready.

I think jolt do (https://www.jolt.co.uk/web-hosting/) but double check with support first. Cloudways definitely do, but they're a bit more expensive.

    2. Sub Domain - Alternatively, depending on where your domain is hosted, if you have access to the dns records of the domain you can create a sub domain (eg: dev.yoursite.com) that points to the new hosting account for you to set up.

    3. Free Wordpress Account - You could always set up a free account on wordpress.com, make it how you like and then export it and set it up on the new host. This is the biggest faff as it involves an extra step rather than just changing your domain settings once you're ready to switch, but could be good if you're not sure and want to play around with wordpress first.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all that for me! I have gone with the first option and got the hosting with the temp name through godaddy. I'll research at a later date if their hosting is any good and if not I'll move it but for what I need now everything is sorted! Balddidiot you are a star!

Good luck. Personally wouldn't recommend Godaddy hosting, but up to you.
I think you made a smart choice btw (switching from Wix).
