    Default Website stolen.

One of my websites is MIA.

It was www.slotsadvice.com It WAS a website, but now it's a domain owned by somebodyh else!

Ok, I haven't been paying attention, since I have been quite sick with Lyme disease and coinfections.

Thing is, when this domain name came up for renewal, I did not receive any notice from the registrar, DOMAIN SYSTEMS, INC. It apparently lapsed and now it is for sale, under somebody else's control.

What the hell can I do about this? I still have all the content on my server...but the domain name is gone.

Had it been during the first 30 days after expiration, it would be in a period called "domain redmeption".

I don't recall what the ICANN rules are now, and I do not know if Registrars are required to provide the 30 day period but I thought they were.

During the 30 day redemption period a Registrar is allowed to charge and extra fee to the original owner to get the domain back. (I think the max is $200 although the most common amount is $100).

I see they put a $2300 price tag on the name. I tried searching for that registrar and the domain I tried to visit forwarded to Moniker and they are very big in the name game.

Like I said I do not know what the registrars are required to offer on expired names, but if it is in the 30 day mark call them right away and see if you can't get it back under redemption.

First, forgive me for not acknowledging the most important point you made and that was that you had been sick. I am very sorry to hear that and I hope that things improve with your health.

I see that the name expired back in April? This will be a very difficult case to fight.

Yeah, it was back in April.

I've been renewing everything with notices, but I didn't receive any from Moniker! I searched all my mail boxes, even the servers, and there is nothing there.

I guess it's probably too late. I'll put the content on another domain for now.

Thanks so much for your responses. I had forgotten how great it is to have communities such as this.

Thanks. It was just such a great domain name I lucked into (maybe because somebody else had a domain name lapse unbeknownst to them?), so I stuck some blog on it and blogged about slots, then forgot about it. It wasn't my main site by any stretch of the imagination. If it'd been slottips or casinogeek I would be fit to be tied for an indefinite length of time.

On ICANN this can prove to be useful regardless of the redemption period. Apologies if you have already read it. It really gets me how domain names can be purchased just to sell on at an over inflated price - these domain brokers are quite close to bankers in my opinion.

Just looked at GoDaddy and the domain (slotsadvise.com) is available at 12.99. Perhaps you can buy it back at a reasonable rate now?

Hope that helps and your health gets better too!

I will ask namecheap when I am able to transfer the domain and let you know when it is able to be done

Also easy enough to point to ur nameservers at any time

edit i screwed up I got slotsadvise.com with an S yours if you want it sorry for confusion

Yeah, that's slotsadvise, with an S
The lost domain is with a C

I just finally got into my account with Moniker and there aren't even any invoices generated for the domain renewal.
This is very odd! I see the invoice generated when I originally bought the domain, yet there are non for renewal.
I think Moniker might have made a mistake?

    Yes, from that page:

"3.7.5.1 Extenuating circumstances are defined as: UDRP action, valid court order, failure of a Registrar's renewal process (which does not include failure of a registrant to respond),"

There! Failure of a Registrar's renewal process.

I have written to icann. Waiting for a reply.

Hoping your health is fine but to say the domain is stolen is misleading. It expired and someone else registered it. This is 2 different things

Well, since I wasn't notified that it was expiring, it's the same as stolen to me.

If I'd been notified and simply failed to renew it, then it lawfully expired, but that's not the case here. It didn't lawfully expire with due notification and an invoice was not prepared by the registrar. There were NO invoices in my account beyond one back in 2006. That's a major goof on their part, and now I have no owndership of the domain.

As a webmaster, I am sure that you expect and receive renewal notices for your domains, starting a couple months before their expiration date. It's a part of the Icann regulations.

Now, the party who bought it, likely wasn't aware of this, so they didn't steal it. The registrar is responsible for the situation.

Well, originally it was explained that the Registrar on this was a different company, so if this happened around the time that Moniker was absorbing a company maybe they can help with this.

And based upon your reseach if you were not notified you may have a case of getting the name back.

whoever registered the domain after it expired, they are not a thief.

If however your domain company failed to deliver a message to you to notify you might have a possibility to get it back but I doubt this is part of any contract. After seeing the title of this thread I thought someone had hacked your email account and actually stole the domain and transferred it away from you but this didn't happen at all. Domains expire all the time.

I'm very sorry to hear that bad story. In Germany there is e.g. a company that buys every German domain name expired. Just any! The company have absolutely no intention to fill these domains with content. It's just profiteering.

O.k --- This is not illegal, but I personally have little sympathy for this, and i think, i am not alone.

Nah, no news. I haven't heard back from icaan. I might try the registrar who didn't notify me, but I did register the .net version and might just put the content on that instead.
