Default What did you do before becoming a gambling affiliate?

What were you doing before you got into the gambling sector? for me, I've worked in SEO for about 7 years, starting as an marketing executive to contractor and my last job as Head of Search, made the leap to make my own sites mainly due to spending about 60% of my time explaining the benefits of it.

    What about you?

I worked in IT for 30 years my last position was IT Director. Got made redundant and was introduced to this business by a friend. Had a year to make it work and am now just ending my second year, so must be doing something right

Actually I was in the music business since I was a teenager - grew up - recorded records - still touring with my band - but also enjoying the casino business...

Ever had one of those extended warranty letters after buying something at Dixons/Currys/PC World? That was me up until about 2010. Thought I'd get into gambling as it's a rung or two up the social acceptability ladder

You made the textual input for those letters? I remember them. They still do exist actually.

For me banking or gambling, it wasn't a that big difference actually

Yes indeed, I wrote & maintained the copy and managed the various suppliers who physically got the letters out to customers. Some of my old team are still there running things to this very day!

The amount of people who come out of SEO agencies and into affiliation is exactly why I don't employ any SEO agencies to do my SEO for me! I don't want any clever people in the SEO company seeing my business model and my whole set of targeted keywords and thinking, "hmmmm this is better than earning £25k-£35k sat in this SEO agency". I know there are NDAs you can get people to sign but often they're not worth the paper they're written on.

Yep you need to watch who you hire i guess and keep your cards close to your chest, no pun intended..The market is saturated enough at this stage, last thing we need is more SEOs to compete against..

Everybody can start a SEO agency and everybody can call himself or herself a SEO expert. There's not such thing as a protected title like accountants, doctors, lawyers, etc do have.

I agree with Aris 1985 and RacingJim. A lot of times you also see that SEO is just one of the things they are doing...

Personally I think this is the wrong attitude, an SEO guy who goes solo will do all the same keyword research and market saturation tests by themselves, I've never worked in the gambling sector in agency before starting out. The staff who work at agencies normally do not sign NDA's, they are normally agency level NCA.

Not going to lie, if anyone is good at SEO they should ditch their clients and go solo, most people who I came across in the industry were learners, having said that many people don't want the hassle of running their own business.

If someone could use your data to their advantage do you not think it would be the hosting companies? They can see far more data than any SEO agency could through Analytics
