Default What is your price for someone to put an article on your website?

Today I received an email from a guy with a gmail account asking how much would it cost for him to place an article or ad on our site. I don't know if his offer is legitimate or he is trying something, but I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to the question anyway in case of future legit offers:

What is your price for someone to put an article on your website? I imagine that article would have a link to his website, so what is the commonly accpeted price for this?

This is the first offer of this kind that we have received since our site was launched (which was not very long ago), and we don't know what price to give to him. Usually we receive offers of link exchange.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

If your serious about your site never add an outgoing link to another portal. And I usually dont bother reading any email from a free mail system such as gmail.

Depends on your business model/goal. If you have created the website, to sell space and make money off exchanges, guest posts etc then go ahead, something like a 100-150 wouldn't be unreasonable.

If you are however looking to develop a brand, trying to provide quality and make yourself recognized among readers it's a bit unserious, kinda like seeing a paid advertisement blog post for Samsung Galaxy, on Apple's website.

Of course it's your website and you can do whatever you want, but I just wanted to layout the scenarios for you and the vantage point of a third-party user.

I have links to around 40-50 good portals - and right on my high trafficked front page too.

If you've chosen the sites yourself as being related subjects and got some high trafficked reciprocal links back then it is a very viable method of getting a reliable stream of good traffic without involving google.

Depends on the quality of the links. Bad links have no price in my opinion. Even if they want to pay you $ 500, you'd better refuse because it will harm your website more than you will win with your $ 500.

If it's a good link, why not? Many high ranking websites do link to other quality websites. It gives some trust to your website that your source is a quality websited and that you've got the ball to admit that there's a source of your information.

It's going to be a problem just if you link to crap websites.

Most large authority sites do link to other such similar sites. I don't see any problem with it.

If you want to develop a serious long term affiliate site - better stay away from such offers. It may hurt your overall results (in terms of traffic) it doesn't pay off to think for the quick buck, better to think in long term

You want to know what the article contains and the gaming company involved before making a decision. We were recently asked to post one in our blog section for bet365, with the provision that is stayed for a year and was ''do follow''. However, this would have meant promoting a tip for the Cricket match between Pakistan and England. In other words, you would have a ''tip'' in your blog section for the next year --- surely its uninteresting to anyone after the event had taken place!

Personally -- i think most of these SEO people are just idiots who fantasize !!
