Why 301 Redirect Does Not Work

Anyone have an idea why all of the sudden my 301 redirects would not work in my htaccess file?

For example I have the below in my htaccess but it returns a 404 Not Found Error.

Redirect 301 /live-dealer-games/live-dealer-games/ https://www.livecasinousa.com/live-dealer-games/
Redirect 301 /live-dealer-games/live-european-roulette/ https://www.livecasinousa.com/live-d...ette/european/

RewriteEngine On

Using Redirect 301 doesn't use mod_rewrite so you don't need to enable the module. That's my understanding, at least.

Travis - can you post your full htaccess file so we can see what's going on?

There's other common errors that you can check to troubleshoot:

1. Are there multiple htaccess files?

2. Is the file extension correct (eg: is it actually .htaccess or has it been changed to htaccess.txt by mistake)

There are 2 other .htaccess files but they must have been added by my hosting company (BlueHost) but I cannot even open them with Filezilla. I tried changing them by removing the . but that didn't work. They are named .htaccess.phpupgrader.cbaa4925 and .htaccess.phpupgrader.initial

Most actually work fine. There's a couple that aren't working because the slash is being removed - for example:

https://www.livecasinousa.com/live-d...-dealer-games/

is becoming

https://www.livecasinousa.com/live-d...e-dealer-games

Same with /live-games/ which redirects to /live-games

Which is why it's not triggering the redirect rule (because it's not the URL).

Ok, yea I see what you mean. But why is it redirecting to that (without the slash) when I clearly have it redirecting to https://www.livecasinousa.com/live-dealer-games/
I dont understand why it is doing that??

I actually got it working. I removed

RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /(.+)/$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^ xhttps://www.livecasinousa.com/%1 [R=301,L]

And now its working. It appears it is also redirecting the non-slash version to the slash version so I am not sure why I had that piece in the file anyway??? I thought it was to do that.....

Oh yeah, sorry I meant that an earlier rule was removing the slash which is why it wasn't matching (as the rules would trigger in order).
