    Hy gaffg!

Thanks for the post. I made my logo on my own and I was surpised when I read about a logo which is "$400" worth. Does my logo count as prosessional or amateurish? I'm just very corious what a pro thinks. Check the link in my signature. You find the logo on the left top of the site.

    Thanks,

Your logo looks professional and if you are happy with it then no need to change it especially if you can design one yourself. The only suggestions are to use less flash on your sites as it is not so good for SEO or iphone/ipad users.

The logos offered by Desigui are professional in the sense that they have experience in creating logos and do this for a living. All their logos are made with Illustrator and are vector based which offers the maximum quality when resizing. Their process for creating logos is very detailed and starts with input from the client, then sketching before creating in Illustrator. Spending $400 on a logo might sound expensive but you get what you pay for as well but if you win the contest, this one is free.

    Here is their logo portfolio

Of course logos come in different quality in production and costs:
    $5 at fiverr.com
    $25 at Digitalpoint.com
    <$400 at Desigui.com
    $300-$1000 at LogoTournament.com
    £400000 at wolffolins.com

The last one created the London 2012 Olympic games logo -

Thanks for your kind reply. I just wanted to know a bit more about this stuff. I think even I can create many things myself I'll take part on this logo contest. Thanks for pointing out the negatives of flash. I plan to make some alternatives for visitors without flash, for example a static logo if flash isn't installed, but since my site is under construction and far from ready I have many others things to do which have higher prio.

I was doing logo design on Elance 10 years ago at $150 a go and I used to get a lot of stick from the 'professionals' for lowballing.
These days the lowballers are charging $5 or $10...

I was a cheeky kid with Paintshop Pro, but at that time the web was full of 3D gold rotating logos, so my work was top quality in comparison

I agree with gaffg, it depends on what you need. If you want to create an enduring brand for on and offline promotion in the long run it is worth spending the money IMO.

If you're working on a small site that will never get huge traffic then there are some decent designers in India and Eastern Europe who will do a great job for $50. However, you will probably have to sort through a lot of crap to find a good one, so you have to factor in the extra time spent.

I notice these guys did the superbetting logo, I really like that one.
I used to do banners for superbetting 10 years ago and at that point their logo was just the word 'superbetting' in red in 'impact' font

Enough nostalgia - how I wish I had stuck with it back then, I bought 'betreview.com' in 2000 and I had big plans, but life got in the way...

CORRECTION: having checked, it was superbet.com, not superbetting. And their logo now is even worse than it was back then... Perhaps they need your help

Okay, here is my application. I have learned many things during the years spent with online stuff, but I wouldn't say I'm professional in any of areas. I work alone and my goal is the create a website (acctually I plan 3) for people who are intersted in online gaming. I spend many hours on every little detail, because I know visitors aren't robots, they are people and I want them to be satisfied. Therefore I think everything twice and if something isn't "perfect" I redesign it. Things back here in Hungary are getting very bad, everyone is in a financial trouble. This website is the best shot I got. Bottom line is that I have to create something special whole alone without a single penny. I would really love to see a professional logo for my site and I hope tousends of people will know that logo in a few years.

    Hey John,

Completely forgot about the contest, good that I check this forum regularly .

Here's the thing when it comes to logos and drawing. A logo, or a good logo, is nothing more than a picture, that unique for your site, somehow represents it, and looks good. However in order to make one yourself you need to have that artist side in yourself. And I know we have all taken that art class in school. Were you any good ? Cause to be honest I never was good at drawing, and I know it. Therefore I will never be able to make a cool logo from scratch unless I follow someone's photoshop tutorial.

And that's perfectly ok, not everyone should be good in EVERYTHING. I am good with underneath code and numbers, so I'd leave the visual stuff to someone who's good in it.

That being said, I think I made myself pretty clear, why would I need to win a logo. What can it be used for? To build up a brand. There are plenty of brands that you might not be able to recall their names or sites, but you can definitely can recall their logo. So that's another way for visitors to remember you.

Bottom line is I will eventually get a new design and logo, whether it's from a contest or self bought.

That last Arnell company seems to have a huuuge portfolio and many major companies. I guess if you are serious about your business and it turns into a major corporation this is money well spent. I am sure for the average Joe, 500$ logo is just enough.

Please count me in for the competition! I designed our 'logo' myself - but it's horrible and I know it and I seriously need a professional to do one for the site!

    Thanks!
