    I also wonder whether, beyond the inherent differences between repeated cross-sectional studies and longitudinal ones, the demographic shifts that occurred in both countries could have made some differences. In any case, it’s not surprising to see the level of laxity with which these supposed studies are conducted and their results presented. They have learned that they can just get away with it.

    This is exactly the direction UK regulation has been heading. Increasing taxes and tightening rules are clearly putting pressure on operators to scale back, and we’re now seeing the real impact with store closures. It feels like the goal is not just regulation, but actively shrinking the gambling sector to a minimum.
