Default Would a Backlink from this site be good?

Would a Backlink from www.asian-football.com be good for my site?

Also what would you say a Backlink from this site was worth? If someone wanted to be listed on the site?

slowly building up a good history with my site, just working out the best way forward.

trying to work out best plan now.

No, it has a PR5 from before google stopped updating, but a quick index check shows 16 pages... pretty weak.. It might of been a good site one time but not as of now though it has a trust flow of 53.. but im going to go with what google is showing, at one time it had 80k backlinks.. but now 16 indexed pages? perhaps it was penalized?

It's got a load of referring domains which is great, but agreed with wooder punter - it's not showing for brand searches which indicates something isn't right here. It may have been an expired domain, that has been bought and re-purposed with some new content potentially

It gets no traffic - has a grainy out of focus picture dominating it's front page - and four posts all at least a month out of date on it's front page.

Why on earth would you want a link from that site?
What possible benefit do you see in it ?

    Value? Less than $1.

It has approx. 3,719 backlinks from 1,086 domains. It comes up for it's domain name (which is a good thing), but not for the words "asian football". I'm not sure why it's not ranking for the words "asian football". It could be a google penalty?

Basically it's a pretty dire site, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Being associated with that site may even have negative consequences for your site, so doesn't seem worth the risk. I had a look at wayback - I think it's been dormant for the past couple of years and someone has bought it in the hope to use it as part of a link network

You can see how easy it is to get sucked into these types of site - PR5, Trust flow of 61 on the homepage...sounds great until you scrape the surface. Agree with what's been said above - if it looks too good to be true it probably is.

NO - insert asian-football.com into google search and see that it not even appears at number 1 than - so it is for sure penalized...

Yeh it's got the signs of a domain that's expired and been picked up for link selling, exactly the sort of thing you want to avoid. I assume they've approached you to buy a link? If so, think how many other webmasters they've approached, won't be long before Google gets hold of the fact it's dodgy if it hasn't already.

Every day there are thousands of expired or dropped domains on the market. Some shadow players buy such domains to drive free traffic. But, some others buy them for the so-called grey SEO activity. This is really short-term game. However, with google do not updating PR often, some unexperienced webmasters could get involved in such schemes.

Not going to lie, the domain is mine. I picked up loads of domains from a guy recently on the cheap. But I am scared about linking in my main site and affecting any good work I have done.

But the weird thing is the domain had a trust rating of 20, then shot up last 2/3 weeks.

So going by the advice, leave it well alone?

Looking at all Info, it has not been penalised by Google! But what do I know.

I would not ask for a backlink from this site.

Looks like the domain has been around in some legitimate sense for some time in the past - there's a genuine link there from bbc.co.uk dating back to 2002:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport3/worldcu...00/1775748.stm

Under the internet links section on the anchor Asian Football Confederation.

Best of luck whichever way you decide!

This is what happens. In the next year expect the site to be dirtier than Martyn Beacon's browser history.

If it's yours then I'd say if you want to monetise it then just sell links to other people on it.

If you are going to link to your own site then I'd definitely make sure I kept the site updated with a once a week post or at least a couple per month.

It clearly has respect and trust rank so if you can keep control of it going out of date and keep the quality ok then I honestly don't see why not. Plus you have total control on the link, you can always remove it whenever you want.

As you own the site you're in a position to regain it's authority. For whatever reason it was penalised, but you should get it set up on google webmaster tools and disavow any spammy links that are part of any bad networks. As soon as you've done that, keep your fingers crossed. If it was a manual penalty then you'll have to submit a reconsideration request to Google, these can take much longer.

Do all that and keep patient, you might have a real authority site on your hands.

It has a really big drop in indexation - i'll say it was abandoned by previous owner and scavenged by some webmaster to sell links from a high pr site or whatnot.
