    Default WTF? - Google issue

I published this page last week. Google indexed it within 48 hours and it was ranking number 1 for several keywords within a couple of days. This morning, the page is no longer indexed and is not ranking at all. Yet, the Google cache is still available here.

WTF? How can Google store a cache of the page but remove it from the index?

Every other page on the site is indexed. The sitemap is not showing any errors.

Anyone have an idea as to why this would happen?
Has the page incurred a penalty?
    Is it in the sandbox?

Any idea how to get the page re-indexed?

All help and/or opinions are welcome!!

Don't dispare, Google frequently updates their algorythms. Give it a week or so and see what happens. Hopefully you'll be back on top. That has happenned to me before.

I oftern find that new pages rank really well then disappear for a few days before making a welcome return.

Give it a few days and see what happens.

I recently put a small site up, and although some of the pages are starting to show up in the index, the index page is not, and the cached page is the origininal indextext I had up there while developing the site.

They have downloaded my sitemap a number of times, and in fact did so a few hours ago.

The only errors in the webmaster tools section is the missing title tag...from the index page because the text file I USED to have up didn't have any....

I give up trying to figure them out, I'm guessing this will clear up in a few weeks.

I agree, G drops and picks up pages frequently.
If you have a blog, do a 'bloglet' or post about the site.
Give it the 'big sell' treatment.
Often G will pick up blog posts before indexing pages.
BTW, do you get Google Alerts for your site? I keep track of my blog posts that way.

Thanks to all for your comments and encouragement.

    Gayle,
I blogged about the page and added a permanent link to it in the sidebar listing under "poker room reviews".
I have added links to the page in other blog posts since then as well.
The page has a number of internal links on my site, including a couple on the home page.
I "Digged" the page yesterday to get a little more Google link juice.
I am using Google alerts, they're very helpful.

My pages usually index quickly. I just never noticed one go to the top so quickly before then drop right off the radar... scared me a little.

I'll be patient, keep linking to the page in my blog and see what happens.

    Thanks,
    Terry

It's usual for Google, I notice when I add new pages, for example, reviews of new slots, Google indexes them very quickly and they are ranking very high, but in a day my new pages are dissapeared from Google index. But in several days, sometimes in a week or more, I see my pages again in Google index. It's usual for Google.

Don't worry, if your page is really good it will be in Google index.

It didn't take a week. The page has reappeared in the index and has returned to number one in some of the categories.

I guess this may have happened to me before (without my knowledge) but this is the first time I really took notice.

Next time, I'll be more patient and try not to panic

Thanks for the feedback and encouraging words... that's why I love this forum!

    Hey Blair,

I checked your indexed pages for TPF. Out of 16 pages, 14 are being shown in the index. Blog posts generally index quickly, rank well for a day or two then fade off the radar. Your last update was September 11. This is probably the reason you're not getting Google hits.

I recommend you update every day or two. Google will crawl your sites more often when you do this.

Skulls Poker may have a problem somewhere.
    Google site:skullspokerandcasino.com
and this is what shows at the top of page... Results 1 - 8 of about 0 from skullspokerandcasino.com.
It seems that many of your pages/posts are not being indexed. Your most recent - Cake thread (Sept 19) is not indexed.

I'm not a SEO guru so I don't know exactly why your site is not being crawled but it may be a minor setting in your robots txt file or something similar.

Again, blogs need to be updated very regularly to maintain consistent Google results. Content is king! Google loves fresh content.

Oh, it's very difficult with blogs. I also use a blog on my site, but not fully, I mean my site is not only blog. I post only news and promotions in my blog. Google indexed very good my blog, and I had good traffic from Google, one day it stopped indexing it and sending me traffic. I don't know why, but I haven't been receiveing any good traffic to my blog for several months (3 or 4 months), but after that Google again started indexing my blog very quickly and sending good traffic.

I think, it always needs time and don't panic.

Wow that was a real eye opener.. I was always under the impression that blog posts would be the same as a normal indexed page and stay around for a while!

But thanks for clearing that up!
But yes iv been kinda busy developing the skulls site....
so haven't been posting for a while!
