    Default Yahoo Directory

How important is it to get your new site (without direct online gambling links of course) into the paid submission for yahoo directory?

if your gambling website makes enough to cover the 300.00 a year fee and you think it will improve your rankings that much and have tried everything else than i guess you could try it. Opted out of doing it and have seen quite resilient results without if it was permanent I would do it.

This topic comes up every couple of months. I think the general concensus is that some think it's worth it, others dont...

I saw a video with matt cutts a while back where he talked about the yahoo directory, and he made specific reference to the fact that each site in the directory has been "approved" which assures some level of quality.

I'm planning on submitting to the yahoo directory soon to see what kind of benefit it has, so I'll let you know if it's worth it in a couple of months

Gambling Domains: Small clear out of some of the domains we've been hoarding on Dan - see the list here. Prices negotiable, and willing to swap for decent links.

This is true. It is just like getting a guarantor for yourself. Since google is aware that the kinds of directory like yahoo is highly moderated, then passing the moderation from them would put your site to a different level which google will pick up and take note of.

I also learned from SEOmoz (youmoz) that getting links from editorial sites that exist more than 5 years for example is a good kick to your site's reputation. Of course, it would be even more beneficial if the these editorial sites are relevant to your niche and the link acquired is anchored and followed.

This is a funny topic, because Google is AGAINST buying links to gain SEO and if they see you are they penalize you, from what I gather...

But if you think about it.. Yahoo is selling links for this exact purpose, and none other. They don't direct traffic there anymore.. they purpose remove any keywords from your descriptions so you don't come up on searches.. It's basically selling you a back link.

So if Google awards points for being there are they are supporting buying back links?

Maybe its not buying back links but buying EXPENSIVE links that makes all the difference in SEO?

    Food for thought

Not really - Matt Cutts has covered this issue a bunch of times. The official Google stance is that Yahoo and BOTW aren't paid links because of the fact all of the sites are evaluated. The fee isn't to buy the back link, but instead it is to pay the "administration" costs of the evaluation.

It's also worth remembering that if your site is non commercial you don't have to pay for a listing or to be evaluated.

Than Matt Cutts is a spin doctor. Administrative fee's.
That free listing is BS, you can't even submit a free link anymore. Go try, I always wondered how they got away with it...

And what, a paid link anywhere else is NOT an administrative fee? What the heck is this malarkey? So just because Yahoo says, NOT ALL links are accepted, then its not a paid link?

Well there you have it brokers... Just say that its an administrative fee, and not all sites are accepted, if google penalizes you for selling links and black lists you, then sue them for unfair business practices!

Here's what Yahoo did to me 8 years ago.
Took my $300 and charged me reoccurring fee every year for $300.. how is a reoccurring fee an administrative fee? Lol.. <cough> <spit> <choke>

They removed the "we sell web hosting and ecommerce solutions" or something and they put it as
"we sell solutions" Exactly like this, like thats administrative purposes alright.

They did NOT put it in the web hosting category, instead they redirected it with their desire to the business/services/us/il/ misrc services dir to ensure I never was to be seen. thats some great administrative setup there. reviewed?!?! my behind
The directory has been a scam for years

One more comment is what about the sites in the directory before they were reviewed that are sold routinely by brokers who have acquired these domains that are NOT paying this administrative fee?

What the heck is up with that? Why do these "links"remain and yet remain free. They obviously have the money to maintain them... they are charging administrative fee's after all.. and you'd think removing them would earn more money?

None of these links were even reviewed back then..

Spin it all you want, its an obvious scam

    Default Bunk

If you study proper SEO and practice it you don't need artificial steroids for your site. I designed a site specific for brick and mortar casinos in Cancun and have 19 first page listings on Google. The site was published three days ago...........go fish
