Default Yet another "Internet gambling" bust

Another "Internet gambling" bust in the news in Westchester, N.Y.

Once again, this appears to be a street operation with an Internet presence. No mention of what the site name was, and since these gentlemen were operating within the United States, they were very clearly violating U.S. law.

This underground major gambling rings seem to be popping up much more lately. A lot of them think they can get away and stay clear of the authorities by having an internet site to go along with their underground gambling ring.

Which doesn't make ANY sense to me ... let's see, I'm doing something illegal and I don't want people to find out about it ... hey, how about I put it on the Internet!

It does get frustrating, though, when these sites get shut down and the Attorney Generals and politicians paint the legitimate Internet gambling industry with the same brush.

I think we need to come up with a different name for it. Organized crime often "ran numbers" which was basically a lottery. But if an organized crime ring was busted for doing this now, it would be called a lottery, so the lottery is never disparaged ... sorry, lots of random rambling this morning.

There's a really interesting story on point-spreads.com about the difference between credit sportsbooks and "post-up" sportsbooks. Definitely worth a read if you would like to know about the history of Internet sportsbooks ...

Yeah, it's a little long and certainly has an agenda, but it's still a very good read.
