    Default any computor gurus here?

I bought a new computor with an ATI Radeon video card and I am having probs with getting the casino slots to play smoothly. Was wondering if anyone else has an ATI Video card and has exsperienced any jerking, dragging or hanging while playing at the casinos online.

Really need help with this because ulike my Nvidia video card I know nothing about ATI. UPdating, tweaking etc or why the casinos games play so badly.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you got the latest "catalyst" drivers from their website? That would be my first check.

    Hi Tylerd,

I thought about that too....However the ATI website for driver downloads isn't real clear on what drivers I need to update and with my lucvk with computors ummmm unless there is an arrow pointing at it or its very specific I dont touch it.

Windows says all my drivers are up to date....However windows doesn't monitor all cards or recommend updates for them.

    Thanks for the input tho!

Can't offer much help except to chime in that I have an ATi Radeon card in my laptop (OEM) and have never had any issues with any games or slots.

How's the memory? Are you running a ton of programs/apps and the casino? Mine is just a 2 gig and I have run the US facing slots and games with a slug of other things running.

    If you goto http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
there are 4 drop down boxes that let you filter down to the card drivers you need.

You are then presented with either the catalyst suite or just the driver.
I usually install the suite as it allows a little more control and tweaking

No chips, this is a brand new computor....I dont run anything when I have the casinos open other than my VP.

I have 8 gigs of ram. I should be able to run lots even while playig. Ati shows an update for the catalyst software suite posted on 10/10 and my drivers were installed on this computor by factory on 8/11 so I guess I need to update the catalyst?

I had another computor with an ATI Video card and it did the same thing.....Wishing I had searched for a computor with ahn NVidia GC its so much easier to update and it never hung, jerked any of the slots.

If I may ask....Do you update your drivers via Ati site?

    I recommend AGAINST using driverguide.

Tylerd is steering you in the correct direction.

And yes, the 5xxx series should be the correct driver set.

Since it is a PCIe series card, is it one of the latest ones?

I do recommend you uninstall old drivers before doing the latest ones, and also make sure the nvidia stuff is uninstalled as well. Be sure to take a look in the add/remove programs list for any remaining stuff....

I prefer Nvidia cards, but the Radeon cards are pretty good also, but sometimes driver sets have been problematic ver the years....

    Hey Rick,

Not sure what you mean by this Since it is a PCIe series card, is it one of the latest ones?

This a new computor I Bought it last week THE OS, AND ALL DRIVERS ETC WERE PREINSTALLED

So there are no other graphics drivers on here but for the Radeon.

So do I just update the catalyst suite without uninstalling the drivers on here already?

You said the driver suites are sometimes problem matic....I do have the option of just updating the display driver

However in the suite there is another driver...ATI Integrated driver do I need this driver also and do you know what its for? It is not offered individually to download.

The ati integrated driver is likely for built-in ati graphics chipsets....

Is your card a stand alone PCIe card or is it built onto the motherboard?

If you install the entire suite from ati for your card it should install all the needed files....

That is one of the better features of Nvidia since when you load their driver sets most of them perform a chipset lookup and install whatever is needed for that version of card.

It's not strictly a windows 7 issue since I ahve personally (as well as thousands of others) played a number of casinops on windows 7.

And you shouldn't feel bad about telling them the truth in what is going on, and if they can't make the casinos work on that system then you SHOULD take it back.....

    Thanks Rick,

Yeah I returned it......It was doing some weird stuff as well as the casinos...Had insurance to have it fixed but also had 30 days to return it if I chose so thats what I did.

My very first computor ws a Dell and that computor ran great so I think thats what I'll get with an Intel MB and processor and an Nvidia Graphics Card. The computpr I have now has a Radeon with an Asus Motherboard.......I have some issues with it also...Kinda has a mind of its own....

So yeah going back to what I like and is probably the best.

Thanks again for the advice.....Back to the old one for now.....Atleast I can play or not depending on the weather....lol

Rick, Have a ?? about windows 7 if you dont mind.

It is 64bit but you have a 32 and 64 bit browser. When I install a program do I install for 32bit?

    For examble Java, flash etc

Does it make a difference which browser you install a casino on?

I did notice that there is no flash player from Adobe for the 64bit browser.

Got my new computor last night and want to make sure I install stuff in the right browser and you said you have windows7 so thought I'de ask just to be safe.

    Thanks Mynuw

Most stuff like flash etc is inteligent enough to install the needed dls's etc to handle whatever the max capability of the program.

I don't recall if adobe throws up an error if you try an install from inside the 64bit browser, but they used to a long time ago....

When you install standard programs, if they have a 64 bit version available, and there are no known issues with it by all means install it when available...

I actually stuck with 32 bit on most of my systems since I didn't want to run into compatability issues with some of the older programs I run.

I have been running 64bit on a few servers since the early release days and in fact provided Microsoft with a good bit of data and help getting past some nic driver issues before they went to gold code but honestly have not seen 64 bit take off as much as I thought it would have by now...

    Rick
    Universal4

Side Note: For those that were wondering, when the last RC for the 64bit Enterprise server came out there were a number of bugs in the included nic drivers (only certain nics) but were not noticed by most testers and early adopters, but when I put up dns servers running on 64 bit we determined the problems only showed themselves after we threw a few million dns packets at them.

The workaround for me ended up being using nic's made by a different manufacturer.
