don't do it IMO - it doesn't convert well enough to be worthwhile (believe me, I worked with clients with huge livescores sites + MILLIONS of pageviews/month.. their revenues were miniscule). (Not to put you off, but to give you a reality check based on data I have seen)
to answer your Q:
- you want the content in the page content before it loads ideally, you can then populate a widget of course, and get JS to then update it as appropriate.
- Don't load the data into the widget after page load if you can help it.
- avoid iFrames like the coronavirus
