Bingo Pay sites launching their own portals?? WTF is going on?

I know that this probably sounds like sour grapes but WTF is going on with Bingo Pay Sites launching portals competing with affiliate portals?

I know this has been going on quietly for years but now its waaaay more high profile. Obviously trying to slice affiliates out of the game completely.

First Cashcade/Party launch bingo brolly to promote their own brands and now 888 have launched a portal at Joy Of Bingo to promote theirs.

Work with us? Compete against us? Can you do both?

Obviously these guys have deep pockets. Portals cannot compete.

Why should I send my traffic to a bingo site owned by a corporation that will, in turn, use some of that profit to compete against me?

Is this the new trend in the business?

Pokerstars recently purchased three large, well established portals. It's obvious they plan on going head to head with affiliates.

Add the growing trend by the major players to retroactively reduce affiliate commissions and/or pass on more of the costs of doing business....

No matter what niche we operate in, it looks like we better fasten our seat belts - we're in for a rough ride!

I totally agree, it seems that there are more and more portals owned by bingo operator:
bingo street / eyesdown bingo - both part of wink/posh group (Now also joy of bingo)
online bingo co uk - own by cashcade/party
bingo base - own by tea and bingo

This is common in every business..its longterm investment for them..

affiliate marketing is getting harder day by day..

I don't think that is a new trend. Has been going on for years already. One of my former aff managers who I don't want to name now (left the industry a while ago anyhow) told me that they run their own portals already for years. That was in Amsterdam 2008.

OK well I know this is far from a new trend, however I can also see that the issue is more apparent then every before!

It does appear that that the providers are strongly setting against the very people who have made them as great as they have become ....

I don't totally agree with how some things are played, but I guess its all apart of business and strategy etc

This kind of thing has been going on for years. The purpose of a portal should be to give honest reviews and comparisons. Obviously if the casinos own the portals that makes for some very biased reviews.

That said being an affiliate can also mean that some reviews tend to come out biased. I know I wont promote any sites that I do not think treat players as they should, but not everyone takes that same stance.

Obviously as an affiliate I am not overly pleased with any casino/bingo room etc that starts up a portal with the purpose of promoting their own brands but I dont blame them. That said I do my best not to promote them either and if other affiliates did the same they might well change thier stance.

agree with Andy. Everybody should keep in mind that stuff. We should unite and protect our own business and industry.

it is the same situation as with 'nofollow' attribute in affiliate links

I'm curious to get your thoughts on this.

Do you feel differently about an affiliate who then later launches an operator site vs. an operator who then launches affiliate sites?

If an affiliate does launch an online operator site, do you think that they should continue to work as affiliates or sell their affiliate business to only be an operator?

I understand what you're talking about. But you should admit that the world is cruel

1 affiliate won't be able to compete with such brands as 888 and Ladbrokes. Even if you do like these 'smart' gurus advise u to find your niche and other stuff.

if you develop good niche, 888 or Ladborkes can go there also with their huge budgets.

For now we use non professional approaches of big bosses in internet marketing, but who knows if really smart boss comes.

So 1 affiliate can compete now. But community of affiliates will be able to compete in the future for sure.

As more markets get regulated these days the big public brands will be forced to pull out taking their huge budgets with them.

I don't think any brand can operate without affiliates partnerships and vice-versa.

acquisition cost has increased dramatically in the last couple of years, it only make sense that brands are creating their own online assets outside the scope of the brand it self making our work more challenging.

I don't have an issue with a bingo operator running an affiliate site as long as they're transparent about it.

Do you have a list of bingo brands with their own affiliate portals? These portals should be highlighted so players know the reviews are not honest.

I met an Aff Club manager in budapest a few years ago who told me that they had over 300 portals under their control - kinda makes sense for them to do that as no right minded person would or should promote them

BTW Assaf - Eyesdown Bingo does not belong to anyone but myself and i dont belong to anyone but myself
