The statement about the dns server being down and the htaccess file being unreachable needs clarification.

If the dns servers that are authoritative for a domain name are down, the website will be unreachable by name.

HOWEVER, even if dns servers are down, if the website normally answers by ip address then it will still answer by ip when dns is down....HOWEVER, if you have an htaccess file that poiunts the ip address at the domain name then the website will be inaccessable until dns comes back online.

Hey Rick,

That is what i thought. My host will not help me with this.

Do you know a way I can have the IP point to the folder with the website in it rather then the root?

I have an a record which maps the domain to the ip but when i type in the ip address it just goes 403.

I want the site to pop up but i cant move the site to the root.

Let me give you an example. I have 2 dedicated IPS now that point to root.
I tested them both....

I can type either ip address with the / any website - and both sites can come up..

Basically i can access both sites with both ips..

Cant seem to correct this
