800mil? that is massive, even with the fake accounts on there.

More than 2 million accounts just in Bulgaria. Pretty impressing considering the fact that Bulgaria's population is 7.3 million.
Hello,
since last autumn Facebook now have 1 billion users.
Thousands and thousands of accounts only serve to sell likes.
Thousands and thousands of accounts only exist to sell itself as alleged friends.
And I agree with you. The real substance would also interest me.
As with Twitter, there seems to be a popular sport, to keep as many accounts as possible.
Oh, Facebook Home gets bad reviews ...

I think that is thinking small.....I would guess that the fakes/duplicates/other bs accounts are more than 20% and could be as high as 40% of total user counts.Thousands and thousands of accounts only serve to sell likes.
Thousands and thousands of accounts only exist to sell itself as alleged friends.
In March of 2012 the fake percentage was reported at 4% to 6%. There were reports in the Fall of 2012 that the fakes were over 83 million and that was approximately 8% to 10% of the total users.
I do not think that Facebook would ever want the true numbers to be exposed, and most of the stories you read will talk about those users who have 2 or 3 accounts and they never really talk about people who have 5 or 10 or more accounts. Having more than one account is against policy, why would they want the public to know people get away with many more?
Here are a few stories that show the numbers, but keep in mind these stories are from 6 to 9 months ago.

Thanks Leopold, a very fitting smiley icon for this story...lol

If an affiliate program is not small affiliate friendly (especially small US Affiliate), then they are NOT Affiliate Friendly!
I just found this article.
http://www.businessinsider.com/faceb...ccounts-2013-2
It is interesting to note that the article from NBC which was published 254 days ago talks about 83 million fake accounts and yet Facebook themselves almost 8 months later discusses 76 million fake accounts.
In my opinion I think that the percentage is likely much higher.

It would be interesting to know, but at the end of the day... the number of real people are still astronomical.
If we round up your estimate of 83 million fake to 100 million fakes (just to give us a safe margin) that still leaves 400 million people using facebook internationally.
That is still basically 100 million more than the entire population of the United States.
Can I does leave you with the question though: with so many people on facebook, how loud are you going to have to shout in order to be heard? I don't see half the posts of half my contacts. As it gets bigger does it get more redundant for interaction with small groups of people and is it just another way for brands to reach a large pool of people? I see more and more advertising these days and promoted posts, than my friends telling me what is going on with their lives!
I am one of those time wasters however, so I can't judge, I still spend a good half an hour on facebook a day.![]()

All good points Marit,
But when Facebook sells advertising, they do so stating they have 800 million users not the 400 million....
Also, more and more privacy issues and complaints arise every day.
A half hour a day is nothing compared to those who spend half their days there....

Facebook sells their advertising on cpc or cpm rather than as a tenancy, so overall user numbers aren't really that relevant to advertisers - aside from if they're trying to persuade the big worldwide brands into shifting their offline spend into online and they need a certain reach, which I'd say they'd have hit whether its 400m or 800m users. Advertisers can see the unique reach of all activity and therefore see the actual impact of their campaigns rather than basing it on Facebook's maximum figures.
I think the main thing that the user numbers would affect is share price.

Hello universal4,
the result of this and other things is Europe versus Facebook: http://www.europe-v-facebook.org/

I was just going through the forums and this thread just captivated my attention. I got to know that Facebook has currently got 835,525,280 members throughout the world and are still increasing. My source : http://www.internetworldstats.com/facebook.htm
FB is a great advertising platform and marketing tool, but the more we use it for marketing the less benefits we get. I think soon the number of fake account will exceed the half of total number of accounts.
Hello,
Farmville is an indicator of the horizon from Facebook...

How about all of the real users that lied about their age? It messes up my advertising campaign and to be honest it made it a little bit useless. As people in the gambling industry we set up 18+ restrictions, and geo target certain locations, and then bunch of kids come up cause they set up their facebook in a way that it says they are 63 years old.
This for me is a bigger problem than fake accounts, cause to be honest the percentage of those was like 15-20%. So considering you are having an ad campaign with a daily budget of 100$ 1/5 of the likes and hits you get will be totally useless, but will still costs you 20 bucks.
Facebook has to think about this, cause I am sure more advertisers will see (or see it already) it and will just pull back.

Good point X, certainly from an advertising standpoint, this becomes very important. How about all of the real users that lied about their age?
I say, how about the thousands....or maybe ten's of thousands of people who create a facebook account for every domain they own? That could easily account for many millions of accounts.

that's just insane!
As an overseas recruiter (in my other life) I use Facebook for company awareness. It's crazy, on occasion I have completed the whole process from application to placement purely on facebook. this transition from 'old school' advertising to social media advertising was not intentional... it sort of just happened.
i wish i had 0.1% of those visitng my page a day lol
