A Fond Farewell in the UK

It's been announced that the GambleAware charity in
the United Kingdom will close early next year,
with its duties transitioning to the "statutory system."
    Meanwhile, the U.K. Gambling Commission
    has made another "mind-blowing" revelation.

No need for Gamble Aware these days, the UKGC has fixed gambling by stripping every bit of joy out of it, and making it impossible to open an account, apart from at some ropey offshore casino.

Don't you think the government might do worse than GambleAware? Don't say it too loud, or they might take it as a challenge!

It might be an issue on my end, but I can't open the video here (I get a "403 - Forbidden: Access denied" message).

I wondered about this also, and mentioned it in the article thread we have here in the Industry Buzz thread that covers the gambleaware topic.
    https://www.gpwa.org/forum/gambleawa...vy-270891.html

It was pure speculation on my part as I do not know if they were previously effective, but if they were actually helping players I can not see that the govt supervision and more bureaucracy and yet another division (or however they plan to handle it) will be more effective.

If you could drop me a PM and let me know if it is still happening after a refresh. Does it happen on other apcw videos or just this one?

If anyone else is experiencing issues seeing the video, let us know so we can try and isolate the issue.

Thanks NoDeposit will follow up private.

    I can see the video.

I can see the video but I always get a 'not secure' on Chrome on pages with JT's videos - all other pages on GPWA are fully secure. Perhaps this causes further issues for other people depending on the browser being used?

When I inspect the video I get this code:

    <video id="video" controls="" poster="http://www.apcw.org/i/postimages/5059.jpg" src="http://www.apcw.org/videos/5059.mp4" height="313" width="560" style="background:transparent url(" i="" postimages="" 5059.jpg')="" no-repeat="" 0="" 0;-webkit-background-size:cover;-moz-background-size:cover;-o-background-size:cover;background-size:cover;'=""></video>

Would it be as simple as making it https:// in the coding?

Thanks, not sure that is really the issue in this case, but I have asked Alan to look into this more.

I think a portion of this is covered in the short code created for the videos, but will look into this more.

The closure of GambleAware, in my view, represents a significant loss of an independent and trusted organization. It also means the loss of valuable expertise, a setback for ongoing research efforts, and, of course, job losses and disruption during the transition. Perhaps most concerning is the potential erosion of independence and public trust. But then again, this is the UK we’re talking about...so sadly, it’s not all that surprising.

Thanks for the news as always

That's such a shame about GambleAware. It saddens me to no end watching our already vulnerable industry fall apart. I still remember the very early days as a casino affiliate, when this industry was still fresh and going strong. The cost of living has already become unrealistic and more taxes is certainly not the answer for anyone.
