Google has just re-released the updated version of it's SEO Optimization Guide (The last version was in 2008.)

Before I used to follow the instruction, but it was not much useful.

remember, this is Google's guide. They are never going to give you tips on how to beat their algo. It's more like best practice's and what to avoid. Very White hat stuff.
