    Joeyl,

I think what you meant here is why can't Casino City reporter staff identify buzz under their own handle rather than having a handle "The Buzz" that they use.

While they could in theory do that, in practice reporters (or at least our reporters) don't like to associate themselves with stories they have not checked out and confirmed. This was a device we invented that they supported for getting some areas we are investigating out earlier than would otherwise happen. The factual follow-up reporting will always be under the handle of the reporter doing the investigative work.

You've questioned whether that is a worthwhile endeavor, which is certainly your choice. I'll point out that to the extent you don't think it is worthwhile, you can simply avoid threads started by the buzz, or comments by the buzz, whereas otherwise you would have no way of distinguishing those types of posts from well-researched posts by our reporting staff.

I like this idea Michael, however, I happen to think that story in the Inquirer about the Snake Boy was thoroughly researched and well documented!!

    Hi Michael,

Is 'The Buzz' an RSS Bot Reader? If so, out of interest, what sources have you configured it to monitor?

Also I think it would be a good idea, to create a seperate public forum, just for The Buzz's threads. Pretty similar to what I have done with my Politics Forum News Bot, which posts it's threads here: Latest News

We get a number of player complaints sent in to Casino City and I do work on those. At the same time, we're trying to work on building up the infrastructure to make changes on a scale larger than disputes reported to an individual portal. It's a balancing act between those projects in the long-term interest of the player by professionalizing the industry to the point where effective action can be taken, and the more immediate work involved in individual cases. Part of my balancing act between these two is that I don't spend time publicizing the individual cases I resolve. So it should definately be true that you haven't seen me be very visible from a player perspective, but I hope you don't take my quiet long-term approach as indifference. I would certainly welcome any ideas you have.

Nope, the stories aren't based on an RSS reader. The Buzz is human reporting from the Casino City / GPWA reporters --Vin (Vinism), Ryan (McLane39), and Aaron (snooptodd). There are a few others who have access to the username (me, CityMN, CasinoCityMatt) but so far only the reporters are using it. It is general items that pop up to them as of particular interest to GPWA members that we haven't done a full story on yet.

Hey, we think that is an excellent idea. We discussed it at our weekly GPWA planning meeting this morning, and it has been implemented. Cityguard has set up a new forum "Industry Buzz," and moved all the threads started by "The Buzz" into that forum.

Good Lawd, I am lost on this thread. It is about the Buzz. I for one IMHO need to know whats coming down the pike. This is no time to stick our head in the sand. The GPWA should not be restricted from this and the way it is set up is clear to all. I credit the readers for having the sense to know the difference. As a webmaster I need to know EVERYTHING. The ewallets are a perfect example. At least we got a heads up and had the opportunity to do what we could. It is just plain silly to restrict GPWA from reporting the rumors, we absolutly need to hear.

Goodness, what has sam and ella got to do with it??

    *** Thread Edited ***

I've made some substantial changes to this thread and wanted to describe them here. The conversation about "The Buzz" branched off into a second conversation about increasing the commonplace of fairness within the industry. Since the simultaneous conversations made both of them difficult to follow, I've moved the fairness-related discussion to a new thread in the Player's Corner, entitled "Creating a Fair Gaming Environment" -- https://www.gpwa.org/forum/creating-fair-gaming-environment-169828.html.

In some cases I have moved posts entirely. In cases where a post touches on issues relevant to both conversations, I've tried to copy the post to both places rather than move it from this one to the other.

The Buzz forum looks more like a roundup of industry news from around the net, rather than a "rumour" mill.

Reporting rumour-mongering for the sake of it is one thing, reporting industry news from elsewhere is different.

No problem with "the gpwa buzz", afterall. I stand corrected.
