Default Are we being invaded? By spammers?

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I've just looked at a couple of posts (it started with a reply to one of mine) and the first two people I looked at seemed to be a few lines of waffle as replies. Then i checked their previous posts and there was just more waffle.

Is their a reason why spammers would want a link on here especially?

Not here especially - just any old forum or blog.

It's low quality, low link, high volume stuff - and unfortunately despite the hype - google genreally cannot tell the difference.

Comment and forum spam quickly grows if moderators are not onto it in a flash.

    Default Might as well

There are only 14 members out of 11,000+ registered online right now so I guess we're all spamming

    Trust me guys.....

The reports that Terry files on a daily basis keep us busy enough....lol (I bet you saw that comment coming buddy....)

Anthony and I spend a LOT of time trying to keep up with the spammers....

And paolino, cityguard, and many of the other mods still catch a lot....

Spam is a constant battle and will never end, but we appreciate all the effort that the regular members provide by continuing to file the reports and help us see the patterns which helps us reduce the reaction time....

GPWA is about 10000000000% better than A4U in that regard. Hats off to the moderators!

(I was going to say a google% better but then I thought better of it).

I guess if the new users are not able to post links till they reach certain number of posts of are approved manually by the moderators, it will help.

A little bit of spam will always be there, not sure it is worth the time to contain them, unless something is blatent.
    Cheers!

True, the spam at A4U is beyond a joke so well done, any spam here seems to get stamped out pretty quickly compared to a lot of other forums

You can take it a step further and do Moderation BEFORE they are allowed to even post. It's not the most ideal situation, but I've found it to be a perfect fit for my forum because I get robs signing up daily.

I'd rather have to do the extra work verses having my membership exposed to it. Although the staff here does a great job it's an uphill battle for sure.

Anyone that has a blog, an old email address or comments on their website(s) will know that spam is the scurge of the internet - wasting hours of decent people's time every month. Unfortunately there seems very little anyone can do about it apart from clear up the mess they leave.

I think everyone does a great job here. I see very little spam and I can only imagine what they need to weed through. I have a few blogs and that are not very popular at all and I hate the small amount I have to deal with. Cant imagine what the moderators go through here! Thanks!
