I have used Siteground for almost a year now and have not had any problem with them. Really good support that can answer all your questions within a few minutes 24/7.
Much recommended!
We use Fasthosts for some older sites but I must say they've been pretty poor recently, lots of issues on their Windows servers which has disrupted some of our sites to the extent that we've had to place some content elsewhere. Even when the websites came back online there was no FTP access for long periods.
I can heartily recommend Vidahost. Not had any issues with them, good price and lots of options.
I use Wordpress and GoDaddy, but I prefer Wordpress. Thinking about switching my godaddy to wordpress on the one I just started with godaddy

We were with Godaddy, they shut us down, we couldn't even access our database. We ended up doing a cronjob to get an export of our db. Be warned! Plus they're super slow.
Do you mean using wordpress.com but with the premium upgrade and your own domain? If so I'd be very careful, they have a few terms against running gambling aff sites on the service which could result in your site being shut down. Eg:
For any main site I'd be using regular hosting rather than wordpress.com (but probably fine for a supporting or non-gambling site). However, because we’re dedicated to keeping unwanted commercial messages from cluttering the WordPress.com experience, there are some restrictions in place that you should be aware of.
* Affiliate ads for gambling, get-rich-quick schemes, multi-level marketing programs, disreputable merchants, or pornography are prohibited.

Anyone caught up in this issues with 123reg?

Been looking at this for a friend who's lost the 2 VPS they have with them, looks pretty bleak for those involved if they don't have a local backup.
Misshosting, they have a good SEO solution as well as good service.
might as well chip in
Vidahost in the uk and been brilliant with me, got all might stuff hosted there.
On the flip side if you ever come across a company called YorHost or Webmania do not go near them. they are the shitest of the **** and are basically just a scam
I am using Evohosting in the UK.
One reason is a term that prevents, that a sucker who feels insulted, disturbs my operational procedures.

I've used loads over the years... recently Siteground have been pretty good for me. Also using hostnine which have the ability to host in different locations using the same reseller account.
If you have experience with server admin, use a VPS with dedicated resources. Otherwise you need a host that properly manages load. Hostgator are fairly good with support but they really max out their servers with clients.
I've used Vidahost for a few of my small sites and they've always been fine. Their name annoys me cos it always puts the Ricky Martin song in my head. Upside inside out, living la vida host-a.
Agree. I thought about to migrate all my webs to a dedicated server. But thats a bit pricy.
I use a 64GB Ram server from OVH, fully managed by 3th party, de-central backups and so on for €200 per month ... all included.
But have a Vida cloud package too ... shortly after signup, i got a warm welcome and all i need (y)
My personal recommendation: World-Class Hosting with WPX.net
TOP Speed and support, reasonable price!
Godaddy for some of my smaller sites which I have not bothered with moving. For my main sites I am currently using Hostwinds, which I am happy with. Decent prices and fairly fast as well.
Have used lots over the years as always looking for a decent firm and frankly all have been poor in one way or another. I did use 123-reg for hosting but their shared hosting was so slow and useless (of course they wouldn't accept this) that I now only use them for domains. Also used a company called Dataflame that was absolutely pathetic, but they have recently been bought out so may be ok now. Heart Internet was slow for shared and customer service unhelpful and defensive. For non-UK stuff I cant get away from godaddy as I haven't found anyone better that side of the pond and have not, touch wood, had any major issues over many years with them. In UK I now use Iomart (aka Easyspace), who are not cheap but at least they answer the phone 24/7 (for dedicated servers anyway). Nowadays I only have dedicated servers as you are at the mercy of whoever shares the server otherwise - and yes that also goes for VPS too, where they cram so many VPS set-ups onto a server (and just one VPS may have loads of sites hosted) - it is just pumped up shared hosting really. To be honest just one fair-sized referral can pay for a year's dedicated server if they have a bad day or two. Anything less is a false economy imo. Also, I do have say 6-8 sites on a dedicated server, so almost makes sense financially on that basis alone but that isnt a factor for me - if you have a site that gets hit with a lot of traffic all at the same time (think grand national day) and you are using a database cms like wordpress then you need the best resources to make sure you capitalise on it.

I don't see any middle ground proposals here.
From self hosting VPS to hostgator there is a vast area of middle ground options.
I think what most gpw really need is a professional managed solution. And although the options are many, it's hard to choose the best.
I have heard good words about websynthesis, but they are a bit costly and restrictive for security reasons.
Servint all the way
