Default how to judge a worthwhile backlink

    Hi -

Can someone explain best things to look out for to gauge the potential value of a backlink.

If I get offered a blog post on a site with DA 42 and PA 52 (home page), does this automatically make it a worthwhile opportunity, or is there more to it than that?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nope

if it ranks in google for powerful keywords then it's good... DA and PA can be fudged with fiver links or burnt out penalized domains

Google... SEMRush shows about 1% of real keywords... use things like the site command site:website.com

How do you find how well they are ranking for each keyword term?
I tried an example of a keyword and showed over 100 pages for that term.
Does that mean it is a good site to link to if you are targeting that specific term?

site:website.com shows you all indexed pages under that domain only. Not possible to get any keyword or ranking information from this search.
If you want more information about the site in order to decide about good backlink source or bad link source you have to check at first the site itself. If you see a good site with more as couple of pages (site:website.com) you could check some keywords in google or you can use free version of Semrush.com, Majestic.com

Imo they are good for stuff like that - a short and fast overview. Check the keywords you could find in Semrush in Google.
If you find rankings and the site makes valuable first impression you could consider a link outreach.

That is what I thought. You would still need some kind of seo checking software. I have tried the free versions to get bits and pieces of info which is generally good but limited. But I have used the paid version of seoprofiler.com, which was also very good.

Why would anyone offer you that? Anyone offering you links with DA 42 AB 2 aQ23 PA 52 And ID10T or should be avoided like the plaque.

Guest posts and all that stuff. If you do not know who you're dealing with, you can be sure they have one thing in their mind. Your money. Not the quality they can give back to you for it.

My opinion: Do stay away from craphola links like that. Really. Stay well away.

    Find other means.

Edit: Checking your site, I see you don't have ssl. Get ssl.

When I look at a website to see if it's worthy to get a backlink from I quickly look at the following:

    Domain Authority from MOZ
Trust Flow from Majestic (not looking at TF as much as I used to do since this metric can be boosted quite easily and is not that accurate of quality anymore)
    Domain Rating from Ahrefs

I would also look at Keywords and Traffic in Majestic to make sure that the website has good traffic and is ranking for keywords.

Lastly I look at referring domains, and also look at the backlinks to make sure that they are real backlinks and not some spammy comment links, directories, forum links etc.

I would also check their spamscore (I think opensiteexplorer by Moz has that). I tend to agree with Top Online Casinos, makes little sense for good ranked websites to offer you the opportunity of guest posting.

I was wondering if anyone uses SEO Spyglass by Link Assistant? If so, how do you find it for getting an insight of competitors?

There's is absolutely ZERO need to buy backlinks. The most powerful backlinks can be obtained for free with effort.

I use Moz for domain authority and I think the most important parameter is how well the site ranks on google.

In the majority of cases Moz's tool is outdated. Their crawler is pretty slow (they update their metrics once a month or so) and their database has laughable low number of links.

But yes you will get a pretty good backlink from a site that already have traffic coming from Google.

They can be fudged.. however this doesnt mean that these indicators should be overlooked. These indicators ARE useful and should be used in your assessment of how good the link(s) is.

If the website has lots of good content, has been around for awhile and has visible good links pointing towards it the chances that it's been 'fudged' are probably very small.

If it has good content and real quality links then it should rank in content for keywords.. if google doesn't like it then why would you? Links are not the be all and end all of judging a backlink, give me a top ranked article with 0 backlinks and good rankings any day over what a self imposed PR replacement company says any day
