    Hi GPWA Members,

I simply wanted to introduce myself, so if you have any questions or anything drop me a line.

    Cheers all

I shall explain!.....Genting is an company based in Asia that has numerous land based casinos and resorts throughout the world. This includes some massive resorts in Asia, 40 or so land based casinos in the UK and also some interests in the US. All in all the company turned over about $17 billion last year.

They have been doing the online thing since 2008 with the Circus brand and we're now moving forward with the Genting brand as well. As you can tell this bit of the business isn't the 'World's biggest'.

Also, we've had stands at the last 2 affiliate conferences! Can't believe you missed us!

To echo what Al mentioned, I thought I'd speak up with some numbers. Genting may not be a familiar name for people focused on the online side, but they are huge in the land-based arena.

Here is an excerpt about their market capitalization from a recent advisory on their website (see http://www.genting.com/press/index.htm):
There are currently 5 public companies listed in 3 jurisdictions that operate under the "Genting" name, namely Genting Berhad, its subsidiaries Genting Malaysia Berhad, Genting Plantations Berhad and Genting Singapore PLC as well as its affiliate, Genting Hong Kong Limited, with a combined market capitalisation of about RM108 billion (US$34 billion) as at 26 August 2010.

The market cap of US$34bil beats out the market cap for what I believe to be their next-largest competitor (Harrahs Entertainment Inc), which was at US$16.78bil based on the most recent numbers I found (October 2008, here).

Yeah but using market capatlization is hardly a true indicator and it is very contradictory depending on what you read.

As an example Las Vegas Sands has claims to be the worlds largest gaming company based on capatlization of $17.3 Billion, somewhat lower than Genting, so how Sands can claim that i do not know, Sands were also apparently valued at $43 Billion in 2007 just before the crash.

One day you can be the worlds largest company then your CEO gets caught with his pants down and bang you lose half your value and yet nothing changed on the bottom line.

Also what gets included, just the gaming side or do the hotels and all the other non gaming subsidaries get included.

That said Genting are without doubt a huge company and it will be interesting to see how they attack the non Asian markets, i will be responding to your Email Al and look forward to having a nice chat with you
