I think if I had to do everything for him, the results might send him back for another procedure.

During the couple of conversations I've had with Michael since he was admitted, he has sounded in good spirits. I know moments like this are an important opportunity to reflect, and I think he would want that to be how the community takes it - that as you think of him and our family, that you also think about what is important to you and how you act on what you believe in.
He has a test scheduled for this afternoon and hopefully will be home soon.

I've come late to this thread, but I am glad he is recovering well - I hope he is up and about soon and wish him a very speedy recovery.
Meanwhile those are certainly wise words for everyone to reflect on.
Send the love of the community back to Michael Steven! Hopefully it will help him get back on his feet a little faster.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. They are very much appreciated.
The one thing I learned a while ago, that was reinforced for me quite strongly once again, is that if you experience chest pain, go to the hospital right away. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, just go to the hospital right away.
Many years ago (1 March 1990) I had a pretty severe heart attack. Thanks to modern medicine I survived. If I had paid more attention to the symptoms at the time I would have gone to the hospital sooner, and might not have had a heart attack in the first place. Lesson learned.
Six months later (1 September 1990) I felt a slight pain in my chest. No waiting around then, I went right to the hospital. And that proved to be a very good decision. There was a new partially-blocked coronary artery which was repaired with a stent, and I was released from the hospital within a couple days.
Fast forward a little over twelve years to this past Saturday. I had a slight chest pain that seemed very much like how I remembered the chest pain I felt over a decade ago. And I do mean slight. When asked how bad on a scale of 1 to 10, my answer was a one. I was temporarily treated with medicines to improve my blood flow to my heart, and to also address an elevated heart rate.
Monday afternoon an angiogram was performed to determine the actual nature of the issue. It ended up there were new partial blockages at each side of the stent that was placed just over 12 years ago (80% blockage at one end of the old stent and 50% blockage at the other end of the old stent). New stents were placed to repair those partial blockages.
On Tuesday the doctors monitored me and were not happy with the frequency with which I was experiencing irregular heatbeats, so they performed an additional procedure on Wednesday called an electrophysiology study. It measures the electrical activity of your heart, much like an electrocardiogram, but with catheters placed inside the heart that provide much more precise detail. They then performed catheter ablation to deal with a small area that was the cause of the issue I was experiencing. I was released from the hospital Thursday evening.
The point I am trying to make is that modern cardiac medicine is really very amazing. It is very sophisticated, and for many folks, myself included, it can make you pretty much as good as new. But for modern cardiac medicine to be able to have a fighting chance, you have to seek treatment right away.
I hope my relaying my personal story here will result in a few more folks coming away with an appreciation that chest pain, even when seeming very mild, is something that it pays to listen to. In my case, it helped a lot that one of the best cardiac hospitals in the world is only a 15 minute drive from my house. For most folks, the speed with which you take chest pain seriously will be even more important because obtaining treatment will take longer.
