Page Rank plays a factor in google's algorithim. However toolbar pagerank is often months behind actual pagerank. When performing link trades, ignore toolbar pagerank. Instead look at the content on the page, is it of good quality? Furthermore, what rankings does that page have in the search engines.

I am also confused about this PR business, but in a good way! I have a page rank of zero, but i have just checked three of my keywords and they are ranked fifth, ninth and tenth on Google, so all of them are on the first page!
Does that mean that when they issue the new PR's that i will get a high number? Or does that just mean that PR means absolutely NOTHING to the search Engine?

Your working good enough buddy coz your achieving good position on Google. Having my page on top 20 position would be a reward. And don't expect too much in terms of achieving the top 10 position. You need to read on certain changes on Google algorithm and don't stick to ordinary link building strategy that works no more.

Yeah i dont need no more link building now, i am over the moon. Three of my keywords are now in top ten on google, as i said on a different thread.
I am lucky in that i provide news, so my articles are being picked up by Arsenal forums and sites all over the world now. My links are building themselves!
I still wonder if i will get any PR from google though because i am still the big zero!

You'll prob see the toolbar pagerank reflected come the next update. Don't sweat though, my main site has gone from the heady heights of a PR6 to PR0 back to PR4. But the rankings have always been consistent and good

    Just a thought

As of yesterday Google has removed Page Rank Data from the webmasters tools section.

Why? Well according Susan a Google Employee.

We've been telling people for a long time that they shouldn't focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it's the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true. We removed it because we felt it was silly to tell people not to think about it, but then to show them the data, implying that they should look at it.

Some SEO circles are suggesting hiding Google may decide to hide Page Rank altogether.

Hell, so i may never ever get a Page Rank then? Well to be honest i dont care that much as long as my site is on Googles first page. That is much more important to me than an imaginary number that i've never had!

Default Come ont, this thread is wrong from scratch

    Hey,

I'm an SEO for 5 years now and altohugh your 123 list is quite good, I CAN'T agree with CasinoJack...

    1. Sitewide links ARE dangerous! You can weasily get a high PR through them but if you have only Sitewide links, it stinks like optimization and bought links, and everyuone knows, what Matt Cutts and his humble employees hate the most!

    2. Links from homepages with high PR... That's good! Yes, I agree! but usually when you can get a homepage link from somewhere, others can AND will get links there as well so a page like that usually gets spammy overt time

    3. This method I praise the most, although this costs the most time and $$. Having content written (Good content, not spammy useless crap) and publishing it on other real sites, not article directories, is the best means to get high rankings in the long run. Your links are kept safe by the exclusivity of the page your artticle is located on and can age undisturbed.

And a good hint for starters: Don't get "stuck" on linkbuilding. It's not something one needs to thin about that much...

    Linkexchange - Just do it...

    See y'all in the serps!

    Default Oh almost forgot

    hehe, almost forgot the nusual:
PR doesn't count! (That's not entirely true. The thing is, it counts a lot less than domainage and domain name)

PR is composed by 2(or more) elements: SpamRank and Trust Rank...

It is the ratio between these two that counts when talking about SERP's....

Get links from sites with high quality like gpwa.org
Don't get links from sites like HPRTec.org that will be noticed by google eventually and only rank because of the GreyHat SEO they are doing at the moment...

Now i'm really confused! If you are an expert, can you explain how a non-aged site (3 months) with no PR ranking, can get onto the first two pages on Google???

Yes i do publish some of my articles on other sites (Hub Pages), Xomba, Zimbio, etc, and distribute ones that i think will age well on articlesbase, but surely because of my age and non-page rank i should be well down the listings for my keywords?

    I think it's a normal beahaviour

    1) If the page has UNIQUE content, it will rank good FOREVER

    2) Most of the new websites with quality content will get good rankings for a short period, then will go down in serps...

That's what happened to all my websites.

And remember: PR is only a number, updated every X months.
SERPS are more important, and are updated every Y days.

Patmcluk - change your home anchor to "Aresenal News" I would also clean up your title tag. Lowercase looks wrong IMO. Like you didn't take the time to use Caps when you should have. Arsenal News - Arsenal Transfer News is much better looking and all around IMO

Not sure what your using for your site...Im assuming wordpress but whatever it is go find yourself a plugin where you can customize your title tags. You really shouldnt have your main keyword spread across each page the way you do. Its a waste of space and unneccessary.

Anyway give those few things ago and see if that helps you in teh next couple of weeks. Forget the links till you fix the site.

Your post title is what it changes and thats what you need. This is just the title tag.

You want to customize it so you only have the title of the post and not the domain included. Same goes for your pages..you dont need to have the domain or the category just the title of the post and / or your main keywords.

In the initial set up it usually shows title - category or whatever...only have the title present and remove the excess bits. Then you just have to make sure you use it when creating new posts. The seo box is located down the page a bit and will let you customize the title, your description and keywords.

PR is almost completely irrelevent accept for about an hour after the toolbar update comes out. So if the quaterly updates wern't enough of a reason to abandon PR there's a million others i could give you. Anyway the point is, ignore PR

    Default Abandon PR

Google will never abandon PR ...

ok I know that it has switched from the initial idea to evaluate links as simple votes, to a more non-democratic trust-rank / spam-rank based idea (not meaning to offend all those who believe in the equality of all humans, but I completely agree with NOT letting stupid people vote!!).

I agree, a new site gets some kind of a "start-up bonus" (I assume it comes from google detecting a unique content and thinking it is news the world needs to see) but then the bonus weeks dissappear and a new page finds it self getting lower and lower in the results UNLESS more and more links lead to it from the www.

I suggest, you let your site get properly onsite-optimized by someone who understands your CMS well enoughto do it.

Use different Titles for every page
Use different and suitable meta descriptions or don't use them at all if you want google to searchfor the most suitable one...
Limit you keyword density and try NOT to focus on a single keywortd when creating a site. I was forwarded a "SEO Copywriter"'s text the other day:

I disagree with the general layout but the SEO part seems pretty good..

    Have a look:
"Not everyone who has debts needs to get out of debt. If you are currently making your mortgage payments, car payments, and are able to pay off your credit cards in full each month, you may not need to get out of debt. "

I wouldn't use this many keywords in a sentence but the generalidea is that one uses more than just the main 2-3 keywords on a site. Remember, Google knows about semantics and synonyms...

The technique of linking your page internally with the main keyword is an effectiv one but don't overdo it. If you use it on all pages, it might get observed as an SEO technique and then you get nothing if not a penaltuy for over optimizationfor it...

Link to your main page from your content on let's say every third internal page of yours in a range of 4 keywords that suit the page the best...

    Cheers,
    Stefan
