I suggest you educate yourself mate! Neg SEO is very real. If you feel google serps have been improved for the better with the latest penguin updates - your obviously out of touch with reality. NO offense

I agree that negative seo is real.
However, with the very strong possibility that google now discounts links that are not from your 'nitch', negative seo will be much harder, as the backhat will have to acquire links from your own nitch or an authority site in order to effect your rankings.

I just watched someone, pile up over 20k in "bad" links (not in the gambling nitch) to my site in the last three weeks, the only effect... an increase in ranking and traffic from google. Of course, I also made google aware I was not doing the link building...

Yeah you may be right. The thing is though many of us have been significantly affected very badly and that is with links from our own niches.

Mind you some of it I am sure is our own fault - but overall - I can go ahead if i wanted to and find all kinds of cheap "INDIAN" blog link sellers for $3-$5 per blog post and load a site with one specific anchor text and watch the site fall of the charts.

Just this week i have had to ask several webmasters to remove link and in some cases they can't be bothered to do so and its just getting out of hand.

If someone was to contact me and ask me to remove a link i would do so immediately - not make them wait weeks.

And in regards to Google - alerting them seems to do nothing - I doubt they give a ****. I have tried contacting them dozens of times asking them to discount all kinds of spammy links and nothing.

I have scene a whole business go down the tubes - so while google goes ahead and supposedly tried to better the user experience - I see blank sites listed all over thew 1st pages - or sites that are a week old.

Then of course you have the 100s of 301 redirect sites now popping up and bizarre subdomains.

I think alerting Google does work .Just dont expect Mirricles from them

I wouldn't put too much stock in that. It is the Google Spam Teams official line after all. I've seen 6 cases of attempts already and some are in relatively uncompetitive niches.

i'm not going to mention his name but I know one of the countries most respected SEOers. He ran a test ages ago and bombed one of his sites with negative seo so it isn't a new thing. what I think people need to remember is that there is a big difference between google discounting links and flagging you for a penalty. what I am saying is some people got decent rankings in the first place by using rubbish links and automatically assume they have a penalty when they slip back down the rankings when in reality google have just withdrawn the link benefit of these crap links, i.e stopped counting them.
what google have said is that it is even harder these days to negative seo which leads me to believe they are discounting links more instead of penalising then

I've seen at least a dozen confirmations that bad links are causing penalties, I'm running a massive removal campaign for someone (the leading brand in their sector) based on links built by someone else in 2009 that the Google spam team confirmed were causing a penalty. So they are not just being discounted they do actually cause penalties, the thing with negative is it's becoming very easy to tip a competitor over the edge if they have been spammy in the past.

Agreed! Thanks for sharing... its that time now where all webmasters must keep full detail of all incoming links and start sending out requests for removals on a monthly basis to keep things in check.

I have sent out numerous requests also for removals and so far in WMT they are not removed yet.. any idea how long it takes? Wanna know if i need to remove another 300-500 in the next batch.. haha

As regards time, it's a bit of an iffy ball game, to be honest I've tried having the interns scrape and mass mail and it doesn't work very well. Actually picking up the phone, or sending out individual tailored emails works a lot better. With the mass mailing we sent out about 10k and got 7 responses.

Basically you have to keep pestering the people that put them up. Unfortunately crap websites tend to have crap webmasters that don't keep up with their mail XD

That wouldn't be a bad idea! I'm not having much luck with my removals either so I'm trying to find a back link removal tool to make the process easier and haven't had much luck in finding anything, any suggestions?

I'd like them to hurry up with it as although it aint neg SEO i have some links that I haven't acquired and I don't want at all. not sure if they are actually doing any harm but the certainly don't do any good

I agree, the faster they get this up and running the better for everyone.


I just though of somthing... if google does do this they will have to let you see ALL the links that effect your Ranking... and google has never done that before.
