Default Do people still play online slots?

    Hey everyone,
I'm curious — are online slots still as popular as they used to be? With so many new formats like crash games and live game shows, I wonder if traditional slots are still pulling in the same interest.
What are you seeing in terms of traffic or player engagement?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

    What a question.

If you actually take some time to read through a few years worth of threads here at the GPWA you will see that question among others asked have been covered on a very consistent basis.

Some might say, no slots don't work so don't promote them. Others will say it is the largest part of most casino's revenue in terms of overall spend.

I don't think slots will every completely lose favor or total popularity.

Yes, people still play online slots, and I believe they always will as long as they are available. They are one of those classic favorites that might go in and out of style, but they will always have a loyal following. That said, of course, there have been changes, and the variety of new formats has taken its market share. So, while they might not attract the same level of interest as before, I wouldn’t discard them.

I don't play casino games myself, but I know an awful lot of people who do (mostly because of my line of work). For sure, slots are the primary type of game that the average online casino user will play. And, as Rick, suggested, that isn't likely going to change ever simply because the nature of slot games - they do wonders for your dopamine system

It's hard to judge global popularity by one's own website. Unless you have a very very niche site. But in areas like online slots, about which there are thousands/millions of websites in the world, it's hard to judge that by your own traffic.

I don't know about casino, but it seems to me that if many casino games that have been around for hundreds and thousands of years are still around, a game like slots will also continue to be popular and be one of the main casino options for years to come.

As a sports betting affiliate it continues to surprise me how much of our revenue comes from non-sports and in particular games & slots. I’d imagine that the slots-only affiliates will tell you that the area is very much alive and kicking.

Based on the number of gaming providers that create slot games and the number of new slot games released every week, compared to other casino games, I can confidently state that slots remain very popular at online casinos.

Have you considered adding a small section about casinos to your website?

Yeah they do, but also slot-like/ game show live casino games are taking share especially in countries having fast internet. It is important to remember there are still a bunch of elder people playing only at brick and mortar. Gradually they get old and new generations start gambling only in the web.

Absolutely - online slots are still going strong.
While formats like crash games and live game shows have captured newer audiences, slots remain the core of most online casino ecosystems. Whether you're looking at casual players or high-volume traffic, slot engagement continues to perform - especially when paired with seasonal campaigns or localized offers.
As golfbettingsystem mentioned, it’s surprising how much non-sports revenue still comes from slots. We see the same: even affiliates outside the "slots niche" report strong performance from them.
Game providers wouldn’t be releasing dozens of new slots weekly if demand were slowing down. But I believe it's less about if people play slots — and more about how we package and promote them now. The key is positioning: highlight storytelling, volatility preferences, gamified rewards, and hook new players through dynamic entry points.
Slots aren’t going anywhere - they’re just evolving with the audience.
Looking forward to hearing if anyone’s experimented with pairing slot promos with emerging formats like crash or live shows!

It's hard to find concrete, up-to-date that paint a global picture data but i think it's safe to say that yes, they're quite popular. If trends and search volume can be used as a representative for the user interest in games then i can tell you with certainty that the combined number of people interested in slots titles is much higher than those interested in live casino or crash. Obviously there's less crash games out there but research shows slots are still going strong.

Slots are definitely still popular. Other formats are growing fast, but slots continue to drive a big share of traffic and new titles keep coming out every week, which says a lot.

Absolutely. The market has expanded from ~$30 billion in 2010 to nearly $100 billion in 2024, with mobile slots driving more than 70% of all bets

To OP - yeah, slots are still huge. Even with crash games and live shows getting buzz, most casinos say slots bring in the bulk of revenue. American Gaming Association reported they’re still the top earner in the U.S., and Statista shows global growth too. New formats add variety, but slots aren’t going anywhere

Online slots still have better retention than crash games. Players lose interest in crash games very quickly.

    Hi!
Yes, online slots are still extremely popular, despite the rise of new formats like crash games and live casino shows. Their strength lies in simplicity and instant gratification: players don’t need to wait, everything is clear from the start, and the visuals and sound effects make the experience engaging.
Of course, new formats attract part of the audience, especially those looking for social interaction or more dynamic betting. But according to statistics from many operators, slots still generate the main traffic and high player engagement. Players visit platforms more often for slots than for crash games, although the latter can be more “viral” and quickly draw attention.
Overall, slots remain a “classic,” while new formats mostly complement the market, adding variety without replacing traditional games.
