It has moved a site you click on frequently and seen in your history up higher in an effort to show you sites they feel are more relevant to you. Obviously if you visit a site frequently based upon a specific search, you must feel that is more relevant to you, so they are personalizing the search for you.

As Universal said - google can customise results based on your known preferences if you are logged in with a google account - which you usually are if you use blogger, google+ et al on a regular basis.

I also see you as #7 on Google.co.nz ... and I clicked through so Google thinks you're a good choice .. but it doesn't seem a very competitive search term as a yahoo answers question appears at #9 for me - so I'm assuming it's not a frequently typed query - or certainly not targeted by many.

Just a comment on how your website might be losing customers.

I read your World Cup Soccer draft news item - that was of interest to me - and I saw that Draftstreet has one - so tried to click through on the link labelled DraftStreet.

Instead I got to another page on your website - then I clicked and went to the DraftStreet review - then I finally clicked on a jump link (with an unmasked affiliate link).

That took three clicks around your site - and the Draftstreet page I landed on as a generic Draftstreet signup page that doesn't mention anything about the World Cup - and wants me to signup to pick players in an NFL draft.

I could not find a place to actually go and look at the Draftstreet website and see more about the World Cup draft - and their front page makes no mention of it. Do you think you got a sign-up then?

These are the basics that need to be smooth. They are not.

Go through your site and test them as a potential customer. Do not behave as someone who knows your site but as a fresh reader who has landed on a page (in my case the World Cup Soccer page).

That news item has little chance of conversion IMO - because it doesn't deliver a SELLING link.

Thanks for checking Gooner. I would think it wouldn't be a frequent target, but hopefully as daily fantasy sports continues to grow it will become one. I want to capitalize on the growth of it. FanDuel, the biggest of the daily fantasy sports sites, just released their financials for the first time ever. Their revenue grew from $530,000 in the 4th quarter of 2011 to $7.4 million in the 4th quarter of 2013. That is pretty amazing and I want to get in on it. Any other suggestions to get our site to pop up on searches of daily fantasy sports are welcome.

I have added very little content to my site over the last 3-4 weeks. I'm wondering how much that affects moving up on google? I am trying to get on the first page when someone searches daily fantasy sports. Anyone know?

Also I'm going to go back in this thread and look at the advice people have given and make sure I have followed it. Thanks!

Some may disagree with this but let's see if anyone has different experience/views....

Putting new content (pages) on your site will (probably) do nothing to move your home page higher for 'daily fantasy sports reviews' (but I will qualify this slightly in a moment).

The only way your home page will move higher for the term is:

If you add or change the content on it in a way that improves its optimisation for the term
If one or more of the sites above you do something stupid or by mistake that affects their optimisation/ position (ie you move higher by default)
By getting links in to your home page from other sites/pages

Any one of these 3 in isolation or combination might do it

And here's the qualification.....by adding more pages to your site you are creating more possibilities that someone will link to it/share it/bookmark it, whatever. It's also possible (though I have no proof of this) that your new content (assuming it has links to your home page) might be feeding some positive 'energy' to that home page.

Bottom line. If you do nothing you are highly unlikely to move upwards. I'd say it's unlikely that the sites above you will do anything daft (if they had done already then you'd assume they'd already be penalised). Sure you could get extra links in though without adding any new content, though again unlikely for that to happen organically (ie without some help)

Summary - Adding new content is a no brainer. The only way it'll potentially hurt you is if it's rubbish/corrupted in some way/spammy in G's eyes. The potential benefits are unarguable. But just don't expect it to propel a home page higher for a specific term.

Thank you for your response Chaumi. I really appreciate it and will work on it. I am also starting another fantasy sports site which will be dedicated to daily fantasy soccer. One of the big 3 daily fantasy sports websites, DraftStreet, had world cup and will be offering English Premier League contests. My site is www.dailyfantasysoccer.net I hope focus on daily fantasy soccer and offer news, tips, etc.

Chaumi (or anyone else) - you said to try to get links to my home page from other sites/pages. How do I go about doing that?

Make new pages on your sites with good quality content. Link your inner pages to home. You need the content, even if u rank number one, people will loose interest if they don't have awesome material to read, and they will click back and go to the second ranked site.

Thanks edgar. I will go back and link some of my posts to my home page. That's not too late to do is it?

Does it many any sense to pay sites that supposedly get you all kinds of traffic?

I promote the three main daily fantasy sports sites on my website. Recently one of them bought the other and now there are only two. My partner says its best not to delete a page. It is better to just remove some of the information on the page rather than deleting the entire page. Thoughts?

We have been at this for about 7 months now and are not seeing any results. Is this normal? When could we start seeing something? Need to get on the first page of google I would say. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Default new daily fantasy sports site

It is never to late to add inner links. I would remove as many affiliate /outbound links as your can.make a visit or go folder for them.

If u delete a page make sure that u redirect it so there is no 404. Before you delete a page try to fill it in with good content

No one will ever be able to tell you when you might move up or down on Google. Movement is not age/time related. You need to keep adding more content, and most likely some inbound links would help.

Edit Just noticed some previous questions....

Buying traffic Getting involved in anything that says 'get 15000 visits for $49' or similar is 99.999% certain a waste of time and money. You can buy traffic by - advertising (Google adwords maybe, but be careful this is a deep subject)...and/or keep an eye open for anyone offering links for sale (but be careful with this too, there are a number of threads explaining why)

Be careful how you use internal links - you do not want all your internal links to be using the same (and exact keyword/phrase) anchor text. Mix and match.

eg on one page you might link to your reviews page with anchor 'fantasy sports site reviews'...and on another change the anchor to 'reviews of fantasy sports websites'..on another it might be ' if you want to read about fantasy sports sites, take a look at our reviews page.

If you do use same anchor and overdo it, there's a chance Google will see it as over optimization and a potential penalty might ensue.

I'd also be cautious about linking from internal pages back to your home page with in content links.....though I have no proof it would do any harm it seems this also could be seen as over optimization, hopefully someone will be able to comment on whether this really could be a problem
