Default Now I know why I hardly do link exchanges...

Today I decided to do a reciprocal link check on one of my older sites www.casinoscrazy.com to ensure that all the link exchanges I had done, were in fact still linking back to me.
Would you believe that 75% were no longer linking to me.
of course we all know that some sites, get sold, close up shop etc but the majority of the sites were in fact still up and running but just minus my link.
In the past I used to email the relevant site's webmaster to ask what happened to my link. Now I merely just delete their link as I am not interested in linking to people who just remove my link.
Quite frankly I see it as a form of theft - plain and simple.
I sometimes wonder if it would be worthwhile to have a section on gpwa where webmasters can list the URL's of all of the sites that have removed their links for no reason. It may warn other webmasters against linking to them.
There will be some cases which may be a genuine mistake and if this is the case then the relevant webmaster could make a post to this effect, but more than likely we will start seeing the same sites appearing over and over and eventually no one will link back to them and it may force them to change their ways.....

    I agree 100% a very good idea.

I must check my links soon, i bet theres a few inbound missing! There will deffo not be any missing from me though because i would not be able to live with myself if i deleted a link in this manner.

I'm very careful about who I do reciprocal links with, only choosing fellow GPWA Seal of Approval sites and webmasters and only after an email to check if they're willing and state the conditions of the exchange.

Even so, the same thing happened to me where a webmaster took a link down within a couple of months, breaking our agreement. When I questioned him about it, he blamed his 'partner' who, he said, handled all his links, even though he was the one who made the initial contact!

So, yes, a 'name and shame' section would be quite useful. I can offer you a few names straight away...

I know how you feel Heather, as this has often happened to me as well....even with GPWA members.

I know I recently had to move a number of links during a rebuild of a site, and I too was shocked that there were so many that the sites had been gone...I didn't even get to digging deeply enough to see how many recips were missing on the sites that were live.

I would hope that at any time if a webmaster ever found me to not be linking to them when I had agreed to do so, that they would take a few minutes and let me know that I had "dropped the ball" or whatever idiotic reason I might have removed a link...as this is something I very rarely do...

I would never go as far as to say I will only link to seal holders...(since I am not one either) or private members only....

I will however usually invest a little more time into an exchange with private members of the GIA or GPWA, but I also see much potential in new webmasters and am always looking for active link exchnages...

Sadly, this whole link mess is just a pain we all have to deal with.

I always prefer to link with GPWA or GIA members but I tend to do my charity bit for newbies too, as I know how hard it is to get people to link to your sites when they are new, so I try and help them along a bit. But the least I expect in return is for them to leave my link up!
However I won't be disheartened because for every "bad' affiliate out there - there is normally 3 good ones.

Cough..cough is there anyone out there who wants to do a link exchange with me.....but the condition is - you leave my link up I will leave your link up

usually in the summer when things slow down a bit, I go through all links on my sites one at time and check them. Then I either try and contact the webmaster or remove the link.

If they burry my link I won't even add them.

    Good idea Rick
Its actually terrible that we have worked together for all of these years and never done a link exchange.
At least I know I can trust you undoubtedly

Lets take this to a pm and get the ball rolling - I guess you know most of my sites already...but I can send you a list

    Heather,

I think we did a few exchanges on some of our sites....not sure which ones anymore though...

And pompeyrayuk, I have to agree with Heather...there is no need to take the tone you have in the post above....

I never got in to link exchanges for that very reason. I just knew that I would not have the time to check them and the risk of linking to a bad site was a fear.

I would love to link to any GPWA members that link to me as I've removed all my old links that I placed years ago from newbies and such so PM me and I'll get them up within a week or so.

Holy Crap, Pomp...are you on the rag or what? I don't know you to good yet, but with comments like that, i don't think i may want to? I don't understand, why would you come into this post, where everyone is talking friendly, nicely and helping each other out, which makes the whole damn world a better place if we all were like that, and your first post in here is THAT???

Please make me understand why you would be so nasty...and also, YOU OWN AN APOLOGY TO STEVE AND HEATHER, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE AND NO ONE CAN TALK TO THEM LIKE THAT!!!

    Hey guys,

Not to take away from the original context of the post, but since a few people seemed upset i thought i would shed some light.

It was regrettable reading what Pompeyrayuk has written and a disappointment for me. I am sorry he shows much anger towards me.

Considering what he has had to face over the last little while I have a more empathetic feeling towards him and am sorry he chose to behave like this.

I have continued to offer him my friendship and this will not change...

So on behalf of Ray (Pomp) i would like to apologize for his remarks.

Were all human so i don't hold it against him.

    Steve
