    Default Remembering 9/11

Today is 9/11 and I want to extend my condolence to those who lost loved ones on that infamous day in 2001.

It is so sad that 9 years later, and so much has changed, but one thing remains the same - Bin Laden is still out there wreaking havoc on other peoples' lives - in so many different ways.

Sadder still that some have taken advantage of the fear generated from 9/11 to reap benefits for themselves from others' suffering.

Let's hope we have learned something, and can make something out of nothing.

I watched a documentary about 9/11 this morning when I woke up. I hadn't even realised the date. Still chilling to watch it, kinda hoping things turn out different but you know that's ridiculous.

Not to sound trivial, but it's like watching a re-play of a football match, hoping your team will score even though you know the score and you lost.

I don't think we are able to learn something out of nothing. The 3000 victims of 9/11 came from all different religions, but if you follow the ongoing dicussions in the US you would think only Christians were massacred by Muslims. This is exactly what Bin Laden wanted to achieve and we have let him win the entire game.

The History Channel is having a special tonight with raw footage collected from video cams, cell phones, etc. Comes on at 9:00 PM eastern.

Not sure, you might find a replay on History.com they do have them set up form time to time. If it does come on over there it would be at 01:00 I would guess.

They are having a great deal of 911 stuff on all evening.

As if it wasn't terrible enough, now there is a lot of serious illness that firefighters and other ground zero workers are experiencing due to breathing the dust.

I imagine that it is..although it may be best to do a search. We have 2 History Channels actually - History Channel (HIST), and History International (HINT), with programs going from one to the other as reruns.

I'd like to see that myself, and will prob watch the rerun on later.

Right now HIST is showing 9/11 Conspiracies, from theorists followed by Countdown to Ground Zero. More programs as the day goes on.

HINT is not showing any 911 related programming that I can see in the channel guide.

Unrelated but I watched Man on a Wire documentary a couple weeks ago. A French man and his crew went to the WTC and snuck up to the top floor over a period of time in 1974. The goal was to put a tightrope from one tower to the other so he could walk the tightrope between the two buildings.

He actually succeeded by shooting an arrow with a rope from one building to the other. He walked the rope for almost an hour and I was amazed. No fear! He was smiling when he saw the police were looking on. It was quite beautiful.

I watched a documentary today and I felt the same way. You just want it to be different.

I am spending the day watching the History Channel, just watched The Man Who Predicted 9/11, it was very interesting. It's about Rick Rescorla, who was a security expert that predicted an attack on the World Trade Center and led hundreds out before dying himself in the collapse of the South Tower. I highly suggest watching it. I was surprised to find out it was released in 2002.

Several of the programs listed were on last year, and I watched them. Ones about the crash in PA and the Pentagon attack as well.

One thing we can, or should learn, is not to go off hysterically, and allow fanatics on either side to rule the day, such as what happened with the Patriot Act, and going to war!!

I would hope we would learn from this, so the victims of 9/11, and the soldiers sacrificed in Iraq won't have lost their lives with no greater understanding on our part.

    Default 9/11

I guess that I will speak up here. On Labor Day, I was in a local supermarket in a very long checkout line. The woman in front of me started talking to me. We both found out quickly that we were not natives of Pittsburgh. I am from Northern California and she was born and raised in New York City. She told me what brought her to Pittsburgh. She told me what tower in the World Trade Center she worked in, what floor, and the name of the brokerage firm where she was a translator. She is fluent in 5 languages.

On the day of 9/11, she woke up with a very bad headache and other symptoms and called in sick. She said that she could not fathom taking the subway from Queens into Manhatten feeling like she did.

    The rest is history.
