I sold half my BCH and bought ripple at just over .24 a while back. Should have dumped it at the $3+ range. It's making a little comeback so I'll watch it and see what happens.

I bought in at the same level and tried to sell when it was just over $3 - had them on kraken and could never log in to the dang thing as it was when those 500 errors were making it unusable. Price started dropping and then kraken took the site offline whilst they upgraded, by the time I could get access to them again it was ~$1.

Good lesson in not leaving coins on an exchange, even if you are planning a relatively short term flip!

I posted over at AGD a couple weeks ago that it would be doubtful sellers could even log in to exchanges once the sell off starts. I usually hit F5 when I encounter the 502 Bad Gateway error and I get in most times. For the XRP I'll put in a sell limit order for during the slower trading times and hope it executes.

Other than security I'm not sure it matters if the coins are on the exchange afaik it might be better as don't you still have to transfer them to the exchange to sell them? How long would that take during a buying/selling frenzy?

In my experience I found that one has to have all their ducks aligned when it comes to trading cryptos. Get the paperwork in to lift the trading limits as soon as possible, with crypto's going mainstream exchanges are overwhelmed with account verification.

yes, I had pending wd that was canceled due to the upgrade. It was just a small amount to test the process.

It wasn't the sell off though, it was krapen, oops, sorry, kraken being overloaded generally. Was like that for ages, got worse a couple of weeks before the big sell off and then went offline for 4/5 days. They cancelled all orders, so wouldn't have mattered if it had been set up ahead of time.

In that scenario there's nothing you could do as the coins were trapped in the exchange.

yes, its the worst exchange. I joined in November. Tbh, I hardly use Kraken, it was only one I had some trust in that accepted BCH at the time and supposedly US headquartered. What do you think of the new exchange? Seems pretty busy, (as in information overload)

Seems way more stable than the old version. Not done any trades on it since it's been back up so can't comment on that.

Binance is worth checking out also.

It looks like 2018 is shaping up to be a great year for Ripple, as Western Union and Saudi Arabia's central bank show interest in the crypto currency

I still hate ripple, but I must stay neutral. The bankers I work with and tech them love XRP very much. They do not know anything about crypto, but they love it.

Instead of buying Ripple, you should really look into buying Bitcoin (BTC) instead. It's much better, trust me. It's worth much more in the long run. I'm sure that a lot of people on this forum will agree here.

There's a really big difference in value between the two of them. They can't even be compared with each other.

At the moment, 1 Bitcoin is worth nearly $8300 USD and 1 Ripple is worth only 0.67 USD.

That being said, who really knows what the future holds for cryptocurrency.

I'm absolutely certain though that Bitcoin will be much more valuable than what it is right now. You can be sure of that.

Yes, the difference is big, but the value is constantly changing. Couple of months ago Bitcoins cost around 20k USD and now only $8300. It can be a good time to buy bitcoin with hopes that the value will increase. However, having couple of ripples will not hurt.

That's true, Olivia. Bitcoin is what people are vouching for the most though at the moment for now.

I completely agree with you. In my opinion, it is because BTC sounds more common/ familiar , thus reliable. And more importantly, we have seen how much it can cost )
