    The best is you have a blog section your website and ensure you update everyday with a minimum of 2 quality article. Keep your articles original. I got my website to a good pr with out exchanging or even buying one but just provide quality content at my website.

    TBH, the same stuff members posted 5 years ago is your best strategy. Search my posts for 'Top 12..." for on-page stuff.

    One more strategy: link out to great sources of your industry. This can help you to become an authority site by yourself...

    You are absolutely right. Some "free" links pointing to sites or blogs that are authority and well ranking in your niche, really helps.

    I can say one thing if you have good quality content and High PR links then no one can stop for boost in your traffic.

    Well putting very much stock on PR shows that you are likely following very old school seo information.

    The little green bar is dead, there is still such a thing as real pr but often there are misconceptions all over the net that they mean the same thing.

    I do however agree, that good solid content and a few links from WELL RANKED authority websites do help a site's overall strategy.
