Let's not forget that this one only got thru because of the underhanded & sneaky way they did it - adding it to another bill, late on a Friday night when there were few there to fight it, just before Congress was letting out for the fall. There may not have been any fighting it this time. That's why I think we all (including our players) should let our Rep's (and our newly Democratic Congress) know how angry we are about this legislated morality.

TopBoss, I can definitely empathize with all our non-US members. I'm wondering how long all these countries are going to lay down and play dead for the US and allow the US to control their business? There are some pretty powerful countries being affected here.

The US banking industry isn't happy with this, either. Why aren't our casino industry lobbyists working with them to get this repealed?

I wonder if they will have a voting paper for "Bush" in the next UK / German / French elections ??!!
! If I ever see a voting paper for Bush at our next Presidential elections here in France, I will make sure I don't vote for him!!!

I agree with many of the comments above, especially topboss. I amazes me that a civil suit has not been brought against the U.S. either based on loss of income or a country's economy (stock market) and what about trade?

The U.S. is trillions of dollars IN DEBT to foreign countries. (Yes we borrow to fund this wonderfully huge deficit).

Time to call in the markers...

Yes we borrow to fund this wonderfully huge deficit
And you use a low dollar to fund the deficits by various ways. It's just mechanical. If I take the difference I have earnt in dollars compared to the result in euros and show it to you... I guess you can buy me a beer for helping reducing your deficit

Edited: When are the next elections in USA exactly?

Next US president wont take office for 2 full years - January 2009. The election for president is still another 21+ months away.

Other than US citizens being more vocal, we need corporations to make some noise, the international community to fight back, and businesses to fill the void left by intimidated companies.

I am not American . I like to comment a few thing
    - Very sad that Netteller and Click2pay is leaving USA casino.

    - The number of online gambler ( OUTSIDE USA) is growing. Now maybe 25% international but... the number will grow agressively

    - Asian online casino player is growing. Population who gaamber in Asia alone is much greater than USA.......

    With this in mind......

Why do one have to be so upset with what is going on USA.
Many of my American freind say they are sick of what is happening... The truth is how are we going to do business ( affilates ) and to gamble in peace.

I told them my freind... look further ... look outside USA .......

Don't just depend on USA online Casino that is heading the hot soup right now.......... Consider other options ..........

    See outside the box....

Welcome to E-gold Casino.. where there is no boundary and borderless......

Why ? ... Only yesterday in E Entertainmnet program there is a program about Online gambling.. Of course the program features the problems associated with Poker gambling in USA and how a gambler lost and repented.. Not the issue here but it did highlight .....................

"Even when I stop gambling and I have reconcile with my family to my surprise the casino or payment processors.... still debit my account for USA100 for 20 consecutive time... I told my husband I have stop gambling and he did not believe me.......... but eventually me and my husband approch the casino site or the payment processor and we find out and solved the probelms.... But I still have to pay cause someone has authooisred the transactions and we sign agreemnet in terms and conditions of the site ....

Now I realise what I have done........ I have given all my personal informatiosn like my banking details and credits cards details to them....
I regretted it............... My personel informatiosn is no longer safe......

E-gold casino is getting popular .. Yes there is an issue with E-gold sometimes back... but we the (Non American) is enjoing the benefit...

E-gold is being use by all nation outside USA...and UK..... In China and Russsia and India and Asia country it is catching uppp...... Non of us gambler from this country I survey like to give our personel infromations especially gambling.. like our credit cards / personal banking details .....

In e-gold we do not ......... give our personel detials like credit cards or banking details ....... Think about it.. It is never an issue for us even if the
laws pass out that say banned ........... online casino ... cAuse why it effect one country only ... cause all American do not believe in e-gold and have given them their social security number , taxation number , credit cards and information such as Amrican banking details ..to ONLINE CASINO

Of course The American government will calmp down on those gambler.....
The issue is it effect American Bank and American credit cards ............

Join e-gold casino .. ............. The borderless and private payment processor... for online shopping , business transactions and online gambling

Contact me and I wil explain most .......

Consider sign up for e-gold account here and understand the benefits ....

I sent this email to both of my (Republican) Senators, and my (Republican) Congressman.

I'm making this campaign a part of my newsletter, and encouraging players to write and complain about the direction this new law is taking us.

To get the email address for your Senator, go to:
    xxhttp://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

To get the email address for your Congressman, go to:

Regarding the Port Security Act, and more specifically, the Unlawful
    Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

This law that restricts how Americans may not use their bank accounts,
credit and debit cards, is extremely troubling to me.

It's not the fact that online gambling is the target, but the fact that this law opens a
Pandora's Box" that Americans will come to regret.
So, in the interests of stamping out online gambling in the US, we are supposed to give
all of this power to the US government, an institution which is known for overreaching, and using laws for purposes for which they were
    not intended.

And, it's online gambling we need to be protected from this time. What's next? We can't be protected from every new thing someone deems as a threat, by the government passing more and more restrictive laws. That is not, or should not be, its job. That's not democracy. It's an authoritarian form of government.

I, for one, do not trust the employees empowered with this law to be very circumspect in how it is applied. I know of too many instances where
powers once given, have been abused in the most egregious ways.

This smacks too much of the recent authoritarian turn in our government, what with reading mail without a warrant, and CIA and Military Intelligence doing domestic surveillance of US citizens. Our founding fathers and mothers
fought against just this type of tyrannny. But it seems that a certain form of fascism is alive and well, and growing in popularity in our country.

Senator Cochran, you're a soldier in this battle, and if you don't step up and speak out against just such laws as this, what hope do we private
    citizens have?

You know, it wasn't so very long ago, many brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice to stop another authoritarian figure who usurped power
through promoting fear, and using intimidation. Don't think it can't happen again. Those who forget (or ignore) the past are doomed to repeat it.

I thought this knowing to wrong : the U.S.A is for the free trade.

All states are for the free trade when they export but not when import.

However in line of principle U.S.A. don't have nothing power on other state ........ in line of principle : see Iraq .....

Asian online casino player is growing. Population who gaamber in Asia alone is much greater than USA.

if this is the reaction of USA : what is the reaction of China ? of Russia ?

1000 times better the USA that China and that Russia.

    The State of Poker
By Michael Bolcerek, president, Poker Players Alliance

Last night, in an annual tradition, the President of the United States addressed the Congress, his cabinet and our country on the “state of the union” and the goals of the government for 2007. Not surprisingly the president did not include the “state of poker” among his crucial national issues. Thus, I would like to take this moment to provide an update on where poker sits today and examine how you and the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) can continue to work together to preserve and protect the game we love.

As we know painfully well, poker has come under vicious attack over the past year. We continue to learn on a regular basis about home and tavern poker games being raided by law enforcement and how charitable Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments are being shut down. Perhaps even worse, we have seen the federal government’s full force efforts to curb this American tradition from the Internet. Legislation aimed at prohibiting you from funding your online poker accounts passed the U.S. House this summer, then was quietly slipped into a port security bill, literally in the dark of night, which was signed into law on October 13. During these troubling times, the PPA has given you a voice to express your opposition to the government’s intrusive actions and to rally in a united fashion against these constitutional incursions.

The impact has been jarring, as the largest, publicly traded online poker operators shut down services to U.S. players. While many reputable sites still offer services to U.S. players, recent actions to close down payment processors and to subpoena banks are clear indications that the federal government is aggressively pushing the online gambling prohibition.

We don’t have to tell you that a prohibition won’t work, and in fact will likely cause many more problems than it aims to solve. The unintended consequences will soon be apparent and all the good intentions of protecting children, helping problem gamblers, and ensuring the integrity of financial transactions will be lost as rogue sites and unregulated payment methodologies surface to replace the trustworthy operators the government is driving out of business.

The PPA is not standing idly by. Poker should be exempt under the new law and that exemption is our primary goal. I have spent a good portion of January in Washington, D.C., meeting with lawmakers and others to get support for legislation that would provide a “skill game” exemption for poker. We hope to have a bill introduced very soon and then bring to bear the voice of more than 135,000 members of the PPA to push Congress to do the right thing. This would be a very positive development for the game. For the past year, we have been on the defensive, but now is the time to go on the offensive and get a bill introduced.

This year we will also be taking the issue directly to Members of Congress in their home districts, to truly nationalize the debate. We had a tremendous response from our members about becoming PPA grassroots representatives on the state and regional levels. Soon we will be announcing our positions across the country and engaging U.S. Representatives and Senators where they used to feel safe from facts and spirited debate.

While we are working toward the short-term goal of a poker exemption, the PPA will also be laying the foundation for the eventual U.S. regulation of online poker. This is the only proven public policy for online gaming. Licensing, regulating, and taxing online poker is technically feasible and the sensible and fiscally responsible thing to do. We will be working with others in Washington to move Congress in this direction.

Finally, we not only rely on your active participation but also on your active support to achieve our goals. Our new site now offers no cost introductory annual memberships. Please help us build our membership to enable us to deliver a full house to Congress and stop further threats to our game. Tell your friends, family, and fellow players to become members of the PPA. We also offer an ability to upgrade your membership from introductory to full membership and beyond. Our new and improved Web site, www.pokerplayersalliance.org, gives you tools and information to help our cause, as well as make it easier for you to donate to the PPA. I hope you will make a contribution at http://www.pokerplayersalliance.org/donatenow.php.

2007 will be an important year for poker. With your help and continued support we are optimistic that poker will remain a great American tradition.
