This is terrible news. Terrorism is becoming a major problem in this day and age - which needs to be sorted.
RIP all those affected.
My thoughts are with them too! Norway is an amazing country and they will get through this but this is something that has made a huge impact over the whole world...
It's sad that the world has *$%& heads like that guy. Sincerest sympathies to anyone here who has been affected by it.
Does anyone understand his motives? He apparently said his aim wasn't to kill as many people as possible, but to do damage to the government.![]()

What a total waste. I was watching an interview his dad gave a couple of days ago and he said he wished his son had comitted suicide instead of destroying so many lives.
Well, he did blow up a goverment building aswell.
After he set off the explosion he traveled directly to the youth camp at Utøya were he started part. 2 of his massacre.
Norway is a small country (4.9 million inhabitants), and as a norwegian poet said it so well at the outburst of world war 2 "We are so few in this country, every fallen is a brother or a friend". The terrorist attack shook our nation to the very core, but I believe it has made us stronger. On monday people went to the streets in every city in Norway with flowers to give support to those that died and to show that nothing can break us and our belief in democracy and freedom. In Oslo over 200 000 participated (450 000 inhabitants).
The city was then covered in flowers:

At the upcomming election I believe that the percentage of participants is going to be record high. That is going to be our way of showing the terrorist that he didn't break us, but that he made our believes stronger and that he united us even more as a people.
To quote our prime minister:
Evil can kill a person, but never conquer a people.

Unbelievable.
You know someone with any sanity would have necked himself after killing all those people. It just goes to show what a true psychopath he was because he didn't even care that he would suffer the consequences and possibly be in jail the next 20 years for doing something like this.I was watching an interview his dad gave a couple of days ago and he said he wished his son had comitted suicide instead of destroying so many lives.
Yep 20 years - that's what I heard the maximum amount of jailtime is in Norway. I hope he gets 20 years per person he killed.

All it takes is for one idiot to ruin things for the rest of us, truly disgusting. I'm against the death penalty in general, but for a crime like this, I would be very open to the idea. Someone who is capable of doing this should never be allowed to re-enter society (even after 20 years), they are a threat to everyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Norway.

It is a common misunderstandig that 21 years is the longest amount of jailtime in Norway. The worst offenders get something called 'forvaring', i don't have a good english translation for it, but it basicly means that when the original 21 years is up, the penalty can be increased if the authorities feel that the inmate still poses a threath to society. So, a person can in theory spend his whole life in prison, also in Norway.

That is probably the best news to come out of this story. Thanks mate![]()

In Canada they have established a "dangerous offender" law where a convicted criminal is given a second trial (akin to death penalty trial in the US) to ask for a conviction as a dangerous offender which allows the government to hold the convict beyond his original conviction. This like the Norwegian law, are essentially life sentences in a country where a true "life sentence" is not allowed.

Seems like Norway has very leniant sentencing which in this case will be very unfair to the victims. 21 years is a long time in jail but if you add good behaviour and early parole the killer can probably be out in 14 years. What justice is this for the families of those killed. Would be interested to see what this comes to and it would not surprise me if someone like him takes his own life before even sentencing as this is a common trend in this style of killer.

I think the ones who are going to take their own life do it before they get caught because once they get caught they know they will be in jail and suffer. This guy seems like he just doesn't care that he will be in jail. A true psychopath. Sounds like a schitzophrenic actually.
