I'm not an expert, but since the link is no-follow, it means that the google bot will ignore your link on that website, and your rankings won't be affected. But I may be wrong on that one...

I think you're right. from what i have read - there is no passing on of link value anyway.

No follow links are good to diversify link ratio follow/nofollow, if nofollow is paid it is better to get one that brings traffic because ranking factor is too small.

No passing of link juice but there is always value having a high authority site cite you. sometimes these lead to other sites linking back to you.. so really any publicity is better than no publicity ( unless its a spammy link farm )

I agree with Gooner. No direct SEO value only the link profile diversification. So no point paying for it unless it brings you some real good value traffic. But again from what I know the price they are charging for this kind of links are ridiculous sometimes so don't believe its worth it at all

I'm going to say with roughly 90% confidence, using my own flawed methods of course, that a properly placed nofollow link can be effective in boosting SEO. The issue of course, is figuring out what a proper nofollow link is and how to acquire it. I believe it's very situational. And I don't think that's what we're talking about here... I think what's being discusses is buying a link in some online newspaper/magazine/publication with high authority.

I looked into doing such a thing a few months back and the prices to get a gambling link in some of these places was $2,500 +/- $1,000 depending on the firm. Hell, I had one place tell me 4k for a NF link to the site that I wanted. I told them that was very high and they said "no one will deliver the quality we will." And hey, that may be true. But I couldn't justify the price and possible ROI... I just didn't see how it would work out.

With that said, I recently met up with one of my aff managers bosses and told them this story and they offered to buy me a link at said publication to see what would happen. If/when I arrange this situation, I will try to do some before/after analysis on the link/page if possible (though I may be saddled with a mere homepage mention so that'd be difficult to get real stats from).

I have ranked test websites with purely nofollow links with positive results. Nofollow works but calculating the results with your normal SEO KPI's is more difficult.

Please kindly keep in mind that Google takes care of the no-follow links as follow.

Proof: Google shows them on the "Google Webmaster Tools" as an incoming link to your site.

So Google does not let you control the link flow.

That is my opinion of course.
