Bush may manage to exterminate the major population centres on continental land masses ... but us island types will still be around ...

Seriously - were will we be in 2008?
Looking into my crystal ball I see ...
The EU will have made significant progress into removing barriers for Sports, and casino affiliates.
The US of A will still be studying and "Talking" about regulation - as the land based casinos will do everything in their power to delay opening to competition.
What will this mean for affiliates ?
There will be less affiliate programs than today - as the small players will die off and/or merge.
There will be less affilaites than today - as affiliate programs will continue to structure their programs to find the 20% of affiliates that bring in the profitable customers.
You know for some reason I see that with the UIGEA and that ad law for UK in September the future is with the networks.
Today there are already 50 top ones with some well known and experienced in gambling
Basically the future is the software. if you have software that you can use to target not just by geography but by behavior of each individual visitor then I believe you will grasp the portion of the market.
I believe there is a necessity for a special gambling and entertainment only search engine. No Adult content of course.
That's what I think yet the truth is somewhere beyond
I think there could be a major shift of the market from the USA to Europe, Asia and Latin America, provided the casinos and the aff programs make effort to become really multi-lingual, and not just have a dozen of flags, one or two pages in the native language and the rest in English. Also, the translations must have high quality. We need excellent localization to be successful in these markets.

I actually see things looking up!! We're slow here in the US, but we do learn.
The market here will grow, especially as feasible and convenient payment methods are introduced. Bush won't be president forever. Then the zealots won't have control of everything.
Hopefully, by the time President Clinton is in office, we'll be well on the road to recovery.![]()

Looking ahead, I think this industry will no longer have a high number of weekend warrior type affiliate webmasters, looking at subsidising their day job salary.
I am inclined to agree with Gooner that there will be more reliance on the affiliates that earn a regular 4 and 5 figure monthly income.
Exit stage left
I really don't think a whole lot will have changed by 2008 (which is only months away), but I do think that the outlook on online gaming is a good one, but it will just a matter of time before it can all come together. In the meantime, I think most webmasters have to realize that another form of income will probably be needed during this transition period to keep our heads above water.
Well, I am fortunate to have my own production company, which supplements my income. I hope to be able to be doing what I am doing now, working as an affiliate marketer in the online gaming industry, as I love doing it.
I think there will be much pressure put on the governments around the world to legalize online gaming, but I do not know how they will be doing this. I think with time, online gaming will become legal around the world, as long as the governments can tax it, or make some kind of profit from it.
I think the industry is in somewhat of a slump right now, but I think this is going to change, and come 2008, and throughout the year, the industry will start to boom again, and you will see the giants and medium sized online gaming sites start to allow US players once again.
That is just my two cents....
