    Default Windows 10

    I'll get it for free.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a little notification on my Windows 8.1:

    Name: notification.png
Views: 607
Size: 4.9 KB

As it turns out, the 3 GB download will be ready when it's ready and I'll be notified again.

In April I have successfully migrated my Windows 8 licence from an old computer (and motherboard) to a completely new one through phone verification, although the Windows licence is good for one PC. I did all that because I knew I'll get Windows 10 for free if I keep the old licence.

And that Windows 8 package I bought a long time ago, I got for $49 through some discount and the guy from Microsoft customer support installed it for me remotely. He was with me for 3-4 hours during the process.

All I can say is - Microsoft rocks. Everyone else are just amateurs.

I can't wait to see the redesigned Internet Explorer. Spartan, they call it.

Are you getting Windows 10 for free? If not, will you buy it or will you stick with the old operating system? Apparently the Start Menu is back:

I'm very scared to hit that upgrade button. My windows 7 works beautiful. I'm actually going through the years and know that every second release is blah.

    95 - Great
    NT - Blah
    98- great
    2000 - meh
    XP - Great
    vista - blah
    Windows 7 - great
    Windows 8 - OMFG gross

So according to this chart windows 10 should be great. Still worried though.

Since I have 8.1 I will get the upgrade (I have high hopes for it), but I have to say Windows 7 was the best and I regret my upgrade to 8.1 everyday.

I'll stick with windows 7 until I buy a new laptop, don't see any need to update...

Unless there's some mind blowing advantage, I'd stick with my windows 7. After all what do I care about a 0.5% performance boost. New operation system always come out with weird problems and no solutions in the beginning, so I'd wait.

I have never upgraded a windows operating system on a PC.
Version Updates yes - System upgrade no.

I tend to stick with whatever OS comes pre-installed on my device as it only has a 2-4 year life expectancy and the original OS has always been supported. General feeling is that while an old machine CAN run a new OS it is typically underpowered hardware for the new OS apps.

When I buy my next OS I expect it will be Windows 10 and that will suit me fine.

I'm using Windows 8 and I'm very happy with it. I'm not in a hurry to upgrade it, just in case something goes wrong.

There is one good thing in WIN10. The apps. Like in WIN8 it was very hard to design apps for those models which were using WIN system. Now for win10 its much more easier to build apps. Its as easy as building apps for android or ios..

I am really surprised by the price point this will be released at.

I really honestly thought they were gonna do the right thing this time and have a price point around $50, especially after all the hype about how it will be free to many as an upgrade.

From what I understand the home edition will be near $130 give or take a few dollars.

I am sure I will get a few editions as upgrades etc on current systems, but by basing the pricing the way they did, I will likely sell less upgrade to clients etc at that price point when many are running Windows 7 etc on hardware that is capable but when a small office has say 5 to 10 seats, a $250 to $500 upgrade (plus my labor) would have been easier to sell than $650 to $1300 plus.

I look forward to the release regardless.

Been using the beta for several months now and I really like it. Still not 100% sold on the start menu compared to the old style, but it's a lot better than the last version of windows 8 i tried.

Once thing I know with Windows is that I do not upgrade anything until I must!

Could not agree with previous replies, Windows 8 which I have now is not the best even though I already got used to it. I don't even know if I want that start button back anymore

New browser, why would you need it?? Google Chrome and Firefox are doing their job. The only thing I don't like that Microsoft wanted to connect your windows to an email and all their apps are connected to one email - meaning they all know what are you doing. God, I would never use Windows calendar for privacy reasons.

I'm used to 8.1 will get used to 10, because I have to, otherwise I'd rather use XP still. The other question about that Spartan is probably more important for webmasters. Will we have to implement some changes on the sites because this "brand new beauty" will not be able to handle things as a browser can? Why on Earth is Microsoft so keen on developing a new browser? They have already apologised for IE. Now just provide Windows with Chrome or FF installed and everyone will be happy.

I regret upgdrading from 7 to 8, having to download programs to restore the start menu? and they hide the shutdown option in the settings which in order to access you have to swipe the right hand of your screen or something (I ended up creating a bat file on the desktop to shutdown my pc).

Awful interface, hopefully 10 will be an improvement

Firefox is Crashfox, and Chrome just doesn't feel right. I'm dying for a new browser and will be all over Microsoft Edge when it comes out. Plus it will have that personal assistant Cortana integrated. I'll make a real effort to learn to use Edge and Cortana.

They did a great job when they rebuilt Windows from scratch, in terms of performance, usability, security and design. I'm expecting nothing less now when they've rebuilt IE from scratch.

IE is a great product which got a bad rep for minor CSS compatibility issues, and for a vulnerability that was fixed 13 years ago.
