I got my free upgrade too - let's hope it's better than Windows 8 (which I am finally getting used to)

Connecting to an email is not a big deal, you will NOT get Ipple updates nor will you get apps for an Android device without an account (without risking un-trusted apps) so this is a natural progression for them.

But like "user access control" when it was released, something Ipple had been doing for a long time now suddenly was a bad thing since Microsoft had not enabled it. Microsoft listened to users and reduced the UAC annoyances, but I actually keep it enabled, since I wanna know when something is asking for that much control.

I agree with Dan, Firefox is a decent product, but it crashes a LOT now compared to how clean it used to operate. I find myself using both IE and FF, but over the last few revisions IE has certainly improved greatly in speed.

I have not put the time in to any of the Betas, but from those I have talked to that have, it does appear they have certainly made many improvements in this latest edition.

I've registered for Windows 10 but to be honest I'm happy enough with 8.

I actually quite like Windows 8.

I'm using Windows 8.1 with the Classic Shell program installed - anything has to be better then this flop of an OS.

Been running it for a few days, working well so far and seems to be more responsive (I don't an upgrade rather than fresh install)
I despised windows 8 with the lack of start menu and shortcuts to apps all over the place.

I upgraded, it's pretty nice. The start menu is totally customizable as to what you wanna see in there. You can get rid of any useless nonsense apps that windows gives you too.

Quite fast on my kingston hyperX ssd, boots in like 5-6s. I hate the restarts though. When I click on restart it doesnt just kill automatically all running processes and it ends up telling me some BS "this and this programs are still running" and an Option Restart Anyways. Considering that I chose to restart, I WANT EVERY PROCESS KILLED!

My Asus PCE-AC68 wifi card an 80.00 eur card didn't have drivers on Windows 10, thank god I had em saved in a back up partition on my access to the net would have been screwed.

My Microsoft keyboard with Microsoft driver had the dumbest option ON by default (known problem on Win 8 too), which made it turn itself off every 10s to "save power" <----- LOL at this.

Mozilla cried about the new "Default Browser" set, which takes 2 more clicks but I bet many people would be confused and just keep IE aka Microsoft Edge.

Other than that I'm happy with it. I read something about DX12, showing big difference on old generation CPUs combined with High End Video Cards. I have a i7-950 which is an older generation CPU and a MSI R9 290 an overkill 512bit card and I saw literally 0 difference in any games that I chose.

The OS itself takes significantly less space than 7 and uses less memory. Took me around 2hrs to configure everything as I'd like it to be including minor tweaks like disabling a few folders that show up in My Computer and other insignificant things for the average user.

I'd definitely give it a try, if you haven't already. It will feel like your 7, on a core that resembles 8.1 but it's a lot less cloggy and annoying. Oh also spell check for any messenger like SKYPE Amen to that! Now my grammar is flawless hahaha

I have no faith in Spartan. Firstly, all the browsers are endareding your personal details more and more and if you want to set up a secure computer station, it will take you almost an hour. I expect the same from Spartan whose speed should match up Chrome's or Opera's but I am stil sceptical beacuse of IE

Were you able to retain versions of office ext with the upgrade? I read a headline somewhere in the past the free upgrade will cost you more than older paid upgrades in the end but of course I never read it

Windows and Office are two separate products...the latter now has a temporal subscription model.

I use office 2010 thats paid for, would not want to pay a subscription. So I can still use my office pro 2010 with the windows 10 I hope. These are the little things that make upgrading not worth it.

With all the security issues and leaks I wouldn't upgrade to Windows 10 right now, especially if you're doing business on it. The time will come when Microsoft forces us to do so, until then I'll stick to 7.

I have the WIN10 download notice now but I got windows 7 and my commuter is over 5 years old so I'm not sure it installing windows 10 will damage my computer performance...I think I should stay with 10 for now because based on the history with Microsoft the first version always have lots of bugs !

Not Touching it until Bugs etc are sorted the inevitable will happen as they are quick to Rush product to market without testing and QA 100% first Hope they prove me wrong

Microsoft Edge (the new browser) has a problem with rendering resized images. Whenever the image shown on the site is larger than what is shown, e.g. a 200x200 image resized to 70x70, it looks awful.

This is how Google Analytics logo looks on Edge:

That's because the image on GA site is 220x60 but the actual file used is 1500x300. FireFox does a fine job resizing the image (and in fact, resizing is one of the tricks I'm using to make my images look better), but Edge is horrible.

This is the difference between Edge and Firefox on one of my sites (200x200 images resized to 70x70):

I reported it to Microsoft, hopefully they read these things.

But I won't give up, I'm using Edge exclusively now and will test all of its features. It's really fast and looks clean.

I haven't had a chance to load it on anything yet as I am in the middle of a server refresh among other things....

A few of my geek buddies, (other tech's I know) have loaded it and a few just absolutely love it, both speed and stability.

My guess is that any shutdown issues where you see apps that hung up, the reason is that they are older and slower than the OS in giving up the resources and haven' yet freed up the memory addresses on the way down. I agree though, if you click on shut down or restart and say yes since you CHOSE that option, asking again is annoying.

The reason it does this though, let's say you had a sql database open or a doc that had not been saved, this gives you a chance to save those without data loss....
