Rankmath wins hard. Yoast's meta descriptions aren't even working at the moment!
Rankmath wins hard. Yoast's meta descriptions aren't even working at the moment!
I have used yoast seo for a few wordpress sites, combined with the basic editer plug-in, that is actually quite effective.I'm also trying to use rankmath for a new project, combined with the default editer of the rehub theme.I see these 2 ways are equally effective.
i have been using yoast for years
I would say yoast. It's the most user friendly SEO tool that I know of.
I'm trying both on different sites.
Personally, I prefer Rank Math.
That's because SEO is expressed numerically.
But in the end, it seems that there is no difference between them.
That's because both of them just output the meta parameter, and the content of the content does not change after all.
I used both, longer Yoast but in this duel definitely wins Rank Match.
One thing about this discussion that is a little puzzling and hoping someone can clear this up.
According to this page https://rankmath.com/pricing/ I see a whole lot of features that are NOT included with the free version, and yet many have said the free version of rankmath does it all.

I'm using the free version of Rank Math, and below you can see how its dashboard looks like. Many of it's features i don't need at all. A lot TBH can also be done without even this plug in, like for example schema can be easily created with the help of https://www.google.com/webmasters/markup-helper/ and added directly to the page.

Thanks for that, certainly I will make a point to put it on a site to see the features.
It does look like some of the features not in the free are not needed by everyone.

Only tried Yoast SEO plugin so far... I'm testing with Rank Math plugin at one of my test sites, so far it looks OK and the settings are good on Rank Math.
One additional plugin which I can recommend is: Link Whisper... it goes hand-in-hand with Yoast and RankMath..
I run both, Yoast for 6+ years and RankMath for a year. They both do what we need them to do, but:
* the internal link suggestions feature of both is meh though Yoast's is a lot better
* the keyword analysis of Yoast is a lot better (RM's engine is too simple)
But... several updates from Yoast crashed the website due to poor QA on their end. It's honestly unacceptable at this level so we went with RM for the new website and so far we have never faced any issue upon updating the plugin.
I've been using AIOSEO since 2009. 12 years ago SEO plugins for WP were a very limited selection. AIOSEO was the best of the bunch. Yoast arrived much later, so too did other SEO plugins.
Which WP SEO plugin is best?
They all pretty much do similar things. Some have this bell and that whistle, others have this chime and shinny thing.
It's like asking which is better: Ford or Holden...
My advice (21 years affiliate), use what works for you. What you can use effectively.
Agree Dave, back in the day nothing came close to AIO.
Best advice as Dave said, use what works and fits best in your current situation.
One thing to note is that Yoast has an issue with WP version less that 4.6 or so. Granted I know most will say just upgrade WP, but sometimes that could be problematic depending on the theme, so extra care on security needs to be taken, sometime disabling things in the functions file or other steps.

Some people believe meta descriptions don't work because of the plugin, but that's not the case most times. Google may ignore your meta description and select either a text above the fold or a text which seems more relevant for the content on the page. To me, Yoast does its job well enough and I am yet to try the Premium version.

We use RankMath at work. Our sites (not affiliate sites) are huge in terms of content and I found RM handles everything with ease.
We had Yoast, but it didn't work out for us. At last look I found the RM code better, less bloated then Yoast.
I think these things are very personal choice.
For my personal sites I don't use WP.
For me, the best is SEOPRESS PRO. All the features they develop are amazing and let you produce high quality work. You should definitely try the plugin.
I am using Yoast (premium version). I find it an easy SEO plugin to work with. The only downside is if you use it with Elementor it can slow down your Wordpress admin panel a little. But I gues that is the downside of Elementor in general. I have no experience with Rankmath, maybe give it a try on a next project in the future.
I give my vote to Yoast Premium plugin. You are right, the free version of yoast may not have enough compared to tha of RankMath, but i don't use free version of yoast. With SEO beein very tough these days, you can't rely on free stuff to be able to outrank your competitor.
And besides, for a first timer, Yoast is easier to understand than RankMath
I would have to say Yoast, because it's the most biggest out there.
