    Default Are you a flake?

Are you one of those people who are perceived as unreliable because you're always changing your plans, can't honor an agreement, can't respond mails in time, make promises you can not keep, and generally can't be trusted?

Read this article first, and then cast your vote. Remember the first step towards fixing a problem is recognizing it. Voting is anonymous so no one will be able to see which option you chose.

I'm not a flake, and because I'm not a flake I take it pretty personally when people are flakes to me.

I saw this meme the other day that said something like "when people **** me off I don't get mad, they are just dead to me" or something like that. It perfectly describes how I treat people who are flakes, especially when they know how important something was to me. Don't need those people in my life.

    Edit. Found it. Close enough.

I don't think flakes are bad people, they're just doing it wrong and don't even know it.

    Hence this flake awareness week.

I am far from being a flake - well organised and try to write everything what needs to be done. To whom it may concern, read a really nice book about that: Business in the lotus position by Rizwan Virk.

Definitely not a flake. Highly organised and reliable, which I think is part of why I am pretty good at running my own business. I do hate flaky people, but they tend to not be successful people in the long term, everyone figures them out in the end.

I think that is the part that annoys me the most. They don't realise they are doing it.

I had a period of about 2 months where every single friend of mine would make plans with me then cancel them at the last minute because something better came along. There was one thing in particular that was so important to me, and the friend who was supposed to come and support me decided to go out on the **** the night before and tell me about 10 mins before I was about to go on stage that she can't come. I had messaged 2 days before to make sure she was still coming, and didn't hear from her until 10 mins before. That is a **** friend. And she has not even asked me why I haven't seen her. So like you said, they don't even know they are doing it. Perhaps they don't feel like it's a big deal because people don't do it to them often enough for them to care. People do it to me all the time, probably because I'm so easy going and they think I won't mind, but I do.

If I have to cancel on someone, it had better be a bloody good reason. If I know I may not be able to make it, I just don't commit to it at all, and I make sure I tell the person why.

Another example. I was supposed to go to hawaii for a week for my bday this year. A friend told me she wanted to come with and that she knew someone who worked for a travel agent and she will get flight prices for us. So while I was waiting to hear back from her so we could book it, I saw that she was posting on fb asking people where the best place to ski in NZ was for the same dates we were supposed to be going to hawaii. She didn't even bother telling me she didn't want to go anymore. So while I was waiting for her to get flight prices, the flights went up so much that I couldn't afford to go anymore. I would have gone on my own otherwise.

This topic actually really gives me the shits.

Yea it's totally different if someone is doing it in order to get the best deal, e.g. make plans with loads of people and then choose the coolest one and cancel on all others. And then they call themselves social butterflies. Asshole butterflies would be the proper term.

Chicks often behave like this in their I-got-boobs-so-I'm-irreplaceable frenzy.

There are also people who want to come out as reliable by accepting all committments, and then ironically not being able to deliver on any of them because they've spread themselves too thin. Now that's tragic.

    changing your plans: yes
can't honor an agreement: never (but trying to avoid hard deals, unless necessary)
can't respond mails in time: depends to whom
make promises you can not keep: that is what I am trying to avoid at all costs
and generally can't be trusted?: i hope not

the bottom line is that I had to set up priorities even to people; so I have people that I try very much to respond, fulfill every detail, explain everything and then there is the rest, that I do not care much about

I had to do it. Few years ago I tried to deal with everyone equally and the results were just my exhaustion and not so efficient work. So now, if some new relationship emerges, the 1st filter is that I do not respond to many people at all. 2nd filter is that quite often I ask the person for patience, because I have my own duties. It may seem arrogant, but the right people I believe can understand it. So I do not answer many emails, especially not the ones that seems to be generated for more recipients.

The deals however, should be always fulfilled, regardless how big loss there is for me. The biggest loss is losing my name.

PS. I always thought about rich people how they are arrogant. Well, now I do not think so now, but I have to live with my karma of fool. This situation and few others where I had to do 180 degree turnaround is a big lesson for me for not doing fast conclusions based on common sense impression.

Me too! But I just don't have it in me. On the weekend I called a friend to have breakfast and after that she kept asking me to do other stuff with her when I just needed to go home, do some cooking and my washing and wanted to go to bed. In the end I spent about 10 hours with her when I just wanted to spend 2 hours because I couldn't say no. I didn't get anything done that I needed to at home and I regretted it later.

Definitely. The part that made it hurt more is that I helped her so much in the previous months because she didn't have a job so i cooked for her a couple of times a week and stuff so she didn't have to spend money on food. Anyway what's done is done I guess. If i ever see her again I'll tell her she is a **** friend and why, but I have a feeling I wont.

For me it seems that the symptoms don`t fit the conclusion in that article. Yep, I have about half of those symptoms, but I`m very dependable (except for punctuality, which is my weak spot to a reasonable extent) and I HATE people who take themselves too seriously.

So I have no idea if I`m a flake or not, probably not according to the conclusion. But I really don`t take these "personal assesement" or "personal improvement" articles too seriously.

So if we were to trust the results of this poll, there are very few flakes in the gambling affiliation industry.

    Who would have thought.
