I will have to watch it. I definitely don't know any of those people. Could also be that I don't really watch english tv shows.

I know it's been recommended already but Breaking Bad... masterpiece.
I also enjoyed the first season of Game of Thrones. I went and bought the entire book series for my kindle. Good stuff.

    From top to bottom..
    I'd watch
Deadwood (3 seasons) - the bad guy here Swearegen makes Vic Macky look like a pussy cat - my fav show of all time.
The Wire (5 seasons?) - your wife wont like it.. attention span
The Corner (6 episodes of pure awesomeness) - your wife wont like it.. attention span
Battlestar Galactica (7-8 seasons the new version) - its sci fi, but if you aren't a fan of sci fi, you'll enjoy it just as much. - your wife will love.
Breaking Bad you will really enjoy
True blood started of great and turned into pure shite in the 3rd season, I requested my life back.
Swearegen? Bad guy? Maybe we were watching different shows All the same i'd go with Deadwood as my all time fav.

    The Wire's fantastic.

The Corner i found a bit too tough - it's just The Wire with all of the happiness drain out of it as it only focuses on the junkies. That said the performances in it were spectacular.

Battlestar was amazing - until the last half hour of the last episode where they ruined everything. Genuinely couldn't believe the end. What a waste.

    Breaking Bad's great.

    Another few that haven't been mentioned;

Carnivale - another HBO this one about the battle between light and dark. An absolute travisty that they never finished it.

Rome - Just what you'd guess.

Sons of Anarchy - Hell's Angles type motorcycle gang. Didn't really fancy this one myself until i saw that Henry Rollins is in the second series. All round pretty good, a little cheesier than the HBO lot though.

If you fancy some comedy Arrested Development's fantastic - easily the best comedy i've ever seen (although Black Books gives it a close run). It's also just been recommissioned for a new series.

Well make sure you stick with it. It gets funnier as it goes on, requires multiple watches to get all the jokes and probably the best part of it is the length of time they take to build up a joke - sometime a joke that been set up since the very start of the show takes seasons before the punchline hits.

Lately, it's just been kiddy stuff unfortunately. I have to as my little man is a bit over two and it's impossible to have him watch what i'd normally watch.

I just started watching "Lie to Me" on Netflix. I've only watched the first two episodes, but they look interesting.

Anyone into "The Borgias"? If you like sex and death, murder, mayhem, political intrigue -- and think you might enjoy seeing Jeremy Irons chewing up the scenery playing a totally corrupt Pope -- give this show a try. The second season just started.

    There are so many.

Mad Men... USA in the 60's. Fabulous and so well done!

Sons of Anarchy.. Family of bikers, excellent!

Dexter... Normal Blood splat analyst by day guy, seriel killer by night. Fascinating.

Big Love... Polygamy. Well done and feel the love.

The Killing... New show. It doesn't solve a murder in one episode. All episodes focus on one storyline, well acted.

Lost... If you have Netflix, you need to watch.

    The Tudors ... Speachless!

Being Human... the US version sucks but check out the UK version.

hahah.. he is the super gangster.

From The Wire, Vick Mackey was pretty one dimensional.. but Omar .. "Omar's coming" ... now he was a bad ass gangster. Even the way they finished his story was poetic.

    Fantastic shows which weren't finished
    Deadwood (3 seasons)
    Carnivale (2 seasons)

Also a UK show called "The Faze" is meant to be very good - but they stopped it after the first season.
I was really disappointed that Deadwood and Carnivale didn't carry on. They ended the shows right when the next peak of exciting'ness was coming!

Vick Mackey was in the shield not the wire!

We started watching Breaking Bad - got to mid way through season 4. I'm going to be honest, I'm kind of bored with it - it's so slow. I think it was the episode where they spent an hour chasing a fly around that put one of the last nails in the coffin.

I've been hearing good things about the walking dead, so we might give that a go next!

My better (and smarter) half actually puts forward a very convincing argument that Swearegen is actually the metaphorical representation of good within the story in a similar way to Ben in Carnivale. He does what needs to be done in a hard time, but is pivitol in guiding the town towards a better fate.

And that doesn't even touch on the symbolism of him and Hurst always facing off from their balconies above everyone else.

Certainly a very interesting show and one that everyone should watch even though it never got finished.

Couldn't agree more. Huge elements of the noble warrior to that Robin Hoodish character.

Your better half is onto something there! But I think he was just trying to make sure that he is making money by not being part of the US, he was the "law" "mayor" "entertainer" "realtor"

Always out to protect his own interests.

I like the fact, that Swearegen did exist in history, makes me want to believe that he was a smart vicious man who used all around him to his gain, like a chess master controlling the pieces, and the board being his town.
