    Default Choice of domain

    Hello
I've almost done the site enough to publish the site in the next few days/weeks.
However, I have several domains on my accounts and would like to use one for my site and let the rest expire.
I would appreciate your help and suggestion.

The site is in English (and Portuguese and more languages in the future) and the topics are betting (cryptocurrency betting),Reviews, articles, news and more etc In the future I may add a small casino section but betting will always be more than 90% of the content.

    Domains of choice

    bitbookie.co
    evbet.co
    evbet.net
    sportbookie.io
    dikebet.com
    bestbtc.bet
    bestbitcoin.bet

Do you mean the intent/target is (primarily) sports betting...or betting in general?

Sports betting. I think that 90% of the promoted bookmakers offer is sports betting, and the remaining few percent are non-sports betting (politics etc.) So the topic is definitely sports betting (if I understood the difference sports betting or betting itself)

OK yeah so for me, when you're thinking about targeting a subject.....

    'sports betting' is sports betting

'betting' is everything betting.......you bet on sports, you place bets on casino games, you bet in a poker game etc etc etc. It's all betting.

Bear with me...cos this is exactly why I asked....

So FWIW here's my thought processes re the domains (and bear in mind my thinking may be flawed, others will see it differently, and they will have a point..........and I say 'flawed' because after 15-20 years I still have a thing about keyword domains that I can't let go even if it's - arguably - irrational/pointless/not giving any benefit.

Actually, I disagree with all those three, but that's a separate (although somewhat relevant) deep debate about 'the value of keywords in domains for either development or sale purposes'.

    So...given it's sports betting.........

The two EVBet domains, not sure. The term EV (for me) evokes an immediate mental association with poker in the first instance (and may well do for your average sports punter too, though some may apply it in relation to sports betting). If you can get past the poker association, it would work. But I don't think ideal.

Anything with 'bookie' I'd question, although sportbookie.io seems the closest you have to the overall intent. It's not a universal term (I think, though open to correction). Too slangy for me.

    Dikebet...no

bit, bitcoin, btc all Bitcoin specific? Better a domain with 'crypto' in it?? (if you're going to focus on crypto sports betting). Debatable.

I'll pm you an unregistered free (and potentially perfect) keyword domain (specifically for sports betting) I just found. But out of all these, if pushed then probably one of the EV domains.

As for EV I didn't know it could be associated with poker. To me it was supposed to be an abbreviation for Expected Value and a link to betting.

Thank you Chaumi for your comprehensive reply and thanks to others for the suggestion too.

As for Dikebet, yes it is more strongly branded than others however as I look at bookmaker names they are also often not very branded e.g. sportsbet.io betonline.ag sportsbetting.ag or half branded like gtbets, jazzsports, nitrogensports.

As for casinos and poker, I noticed that the word sports in the domain does not prevent 99% of operators from placing casino games, moreover, in my case, casinos and poker are dedicated to about 2-5%, I think as a total addition, so I rather do not see the problem in the word sports in the domain, comparing to bookmakers and setting up the theme as betting.

So for now sportbookie.io the leader

    - 2 for sportbookie.io

    - 1 for dikebet.com

and chaumi suspend/new suggestion (I will check PW soon)

If it's sports betting-focussed then sportbookie.io is undoubtedly the 'Ronseal' answer. The .io TLD implies a level of tech so it will be interesting to see how you tie that in with the design. Best of luck with it!

    My favorite is sportbookie.io

Also I vouch loud for bestbitcoin.bet , if you have good writers for crypto betting and crypot currencies as whole, you can spread it out fast.

Betting with crypto is the future.

If you can split my vote on 2 - put each half to those both domains.

    Good luck , dannyx.

.io domains are very popular among cryptocurrency users and the main theme of the site is bitcoin betting sites, etc so it should be ok, besides there are crypto bookmakers with .io domains

    Thanks to everyone.
So sportbookie.io has a definite advantage, at first I thought it was too long, but it sounds good and besides I love the .io domain
So I think I will rather keep it that way.
But if anyone else has an opinion, I'd love to hear it

    dike - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dike_(mythology)

it seems that the domain extension is no longer important as it used to be. There are lots of different cool extensions that work.

You say the site is about "cryptocurrency betting". From my location in UK the first page of google for that search term has 9 .coms and one .org. No "cool extensions" working.

Also, if you are going for multiple countries as you also state, .com all the way. Your list is not good and people here are always too polite to tell the truth. "dike" is unacceptable in English, otherwise it would be ideal as a .com. Register something like that, but that isn't one letter away from an unacceptable word.

"the first page of google for that search term has 9 .coms and one .org"

There's a strong point in this of course. Just be aware of the possibility it's like that because no one has yet built a .ballbags that was good enough to mix it.

That's not a good enough argument to take the risk. If it is a vanity project, then .ballsbag is great but if you want to make money . .

PS: I would recommend dykebet.ballsbag to the OP, but I just registered it myself.

I don't know about practice, but in theory on most sites and blogs as well as here on gpwa I mostly come across the opinion that content matters and the domain extension doesn't matter.

Besides, the domains given by me are not spammy .io .co .bet are normal extensions found on the Internet.

Besides, it is very difficult to find a good .com domain. I don't question that .com domains are the most expensive on the secondary market and they are by far the most popular in search results, but I wouldn't make other extensions such as .io, .co .casino .bet .bingo etc worthless

My belief is that google does downvote non .coms and non country specific extensions (ie: .com and, say, .co.uk - if for UK as an example - are best). You can see it in the search results for loads of different terms. Chaumi's point that it could be because the sites on other extensions are rubbish is valid, but I have launched sites on rubbish extensions, in my case .co and .xyz. They failed and my two main .coms succeeded - again it could have nothing to do with the domain extension. For me, there is a big doubt about google's handling of domain extensions. I wouldn't take the risk or buck the trend, just my view.

I understand your concerns about cost of .com on secondary market. I actually think that premium bears out my argument - other people think they are preferable too and will pay more for them. I wonder if something with 'four letters + bet.com' can't still be registered. Maybe they are all gone. I dont like secondary market anyway, because the name may have picked up some history along the way. A clean registration would be better.

PS: I see you registered dikebet.com 5 days ago on 18th of this month - so they are there.

I wouldn't compare .co with .xyz
.co is already used by many brands. And it seems to me that the new .c extension will also be a success.
Domains like .io and .co are expensive so spammers avoid them.
Yes, there are still sometimes .com as you say not so long ago registered. But for 90% of searches there are no .io or .co domains. I personally like .io very much (I know in business it's not about what you like) but it's so expensive that I have one and it seems strange not to use it, so I'm glad that most people advised it to me

I do not deny what you write, because I base on theoretical knowledge, not practical.

There is also an interesting option with wordplay in alternative extensions.
You tell me what sounds better e.g. bonuscasino.com or bonus.casino
