    Default Completely Fed up

Bit of a rant coming so if your not in the mood better leave now.

I wont name names because just too many and i would end up in god knows how many arguements

    Ok first thing, my host

My site keeps getting database errors, i tell the host they blame wordpress.

Thing is nothing changed on the site so why now is there an issue?

I explain to them that nothing has changed and so on and then they come back and say your getting too much traffic, so far this month it is at 337000, thing is in previous months have hit over 500000 without any issues so why now

They say its because too many online at one time, 150 apparantly, well i ahve had over 600 online at anyone time so that dont wash.

Now there is less than 20 because of the bloody errors, nowheer near the 150

This issue has been going on a while now, a search of the wordpress forums and there no better, never answering questions blaming hosts and so on,

    SO thats the hosts.

    Now to affiliate programs,

I got them dropping revenue share, i have them slow to respond to emails and i mean by days, i have them 4 or 5 from the same company contacting me about my account and no its not europartners, wont touch them.

They even sent me an email saying my application was turned down, strange that as seeing it is up and running, i have the same company wanting to do advertising deals while i am chasing payment from another employee of the same company.

Banners out of date offering certain free bets while on their site it is completely different, even have one with 4 different offers in banners but just one available on their site and that is not available in the affilaite program, plonkers

At the last count i can say 7 yes 7 affiliate programs are not answering emails and yes they are getting through because when they do answer it is with the standard replies,

    was in spam box,

really? sent through their bloody system,

was on holiday, wheres the back up?

    email never arrived

Alwyas does though when it is in their interest to answer

Today four affiliate programs could not be reached, come on thats ridiculous

This whole affiliate business is just crap, poor communication, poor customer service, poor and misleading offers and so on and had that to a crappy hosting service just pisses me off.

I was sooooo much better off just dealing with advertising.

And no dont feel anybetter now that i have had my rant, cannot do with incompetance.

Welcome to my nightmare, but it's with my VBulletin. I have installed a hack that has totally screwed up my database and I either have to start over or have someone go in and do what needs to be done.

My nightmare was changing host because it took them months to finally explain what the issue was...they would just go in myphpadmin and repair it and I did not know that was the deal. Anyway after transfering nameservers and 5 days later of downtime of my forum I realized that the new host did not have the ability to transfer my database of 256MB (46MB zipped) to my account.

To top that off the 'supervisor' had the worse attitude I've ever witnessed and promised a complete refund, but they kept $35 for cancellation (I paid for a year in advance like an idiot) so I had to threaten to call my bank etc.

I won't bother to go into the wrongs of the igaming industry or I may start crying and want give up on eight years of hard work! I can't go there right now!

I wanted to add that I didn't know it at the time, but my old webhost was better than most. They went out of their way to help me for days after I left and I went back to them. Once I did my forum was backup (with an occassional db error) and all is right for now, but I need to uninstall all hacks/mods and then pray that I still have my 9,000 members and my 95,000 posts intact.

    Betpartners,

It could be that the amount of traffic you are seeing this month is a factor in the problems. Let me explain.

If you are on a shared server, it could be that the entire server is getting a lot more traffic so that when you are reaching the levels that you are there may be a bottleneck of db querires.

Is the db on the same server as the web, or is it a different server?

If the db and the web are on different servers, are they talking accross a private connection or do they also share the public nic?

If the boxes are Windows it could be the last 6 months worth of updates has added enough overhead that the server could use a bit more memory.

Also, the database itself I am sure has grown quite a bit the last year or so and that is another small factor.

I am not trying to take the hosts side, or make excuses for them. In fact they should be be willing to sit down with you and fully discuss what is happening, and help you both determine the best course of action to fix the issue.

Sorry you are having a rough day.

Betpartners, if you use WP you might want to turn down revision control with a plugin (if you are the only author on the wp backend or your author team aren't working on the same post/page at the same time).
If you just edit a typo in an article, Wordpress makes a new entry in the database, and every time you change something, it creates another. So for one article you can have hundreds of database entries at the end and with a huge site it can cost some serious database usage.

As for the hosting, fortunately I have my own server, but as time goes I want to host country specific sites in another countries and i'm afraid of hosting my site somewhere else where I don't have full control on the server

Regarding the affiliate programs, it could be a summer nightmare, ot I don't know but I have never had such hard time before like I had this month in order to collect my commissions. I can just hope that things will improve because I love what I do, but I agree, sometimes there is more stress coming out of affiliating than the reward at the end.

Thanks for the comments and advice

I have calmed down quite a bit now, we are gradually breaking down the issue, it seems that the plugins were the issue or at least part of it.

removing the google site map and google news sitemap cut down on the sleeping connections as they call them a little and this then enabled 200 people online at one time.

Then i removed other plugins and identified a plugin called related posts that was having a huge effect on the datbase, in effect what it was doing was at the end of each article written it would list 5 related posts.

What the plugin had to do was search through 6000 posts/articles for every related story every time someone read a new post and find the most relevant 5

This caused the database to basically go into overdrive.

Now we can have 300 people online before a database error kicks in, so there are still issues but it is being minimised and in all fairness to hostgator (yes named them) they have been hands on all day.

It is a dedicated server with both the database and website on it and not shared etc

I suppose if i upgrade again that would help, just a little confused that previously it would handle 600 people online at one time withe ase but now is struggling to get to 300

One upside was that google news stopped taking the posts but as soon as i removed the google news site map it started taking them again, go figure.

It is annoying because the person that runs the site for me is just about 10% below breaking the day record, he would have cleared it easily today if it was not for the database errors.

So all in all i am regaining control of the server, shame that is an impossibility with affiliate programs (some of them, not all)

    Again thanks for the advice

I think that part of the pressure we are feeling is due to the fact that we are coming up on the 3rd anniversary of the UIGEA. While we are strong and fighters, it takes it's toll.

Casinos are feeling the pinch and I know many affiliates are too. Aff programs are trying to save money but in the wrong places. We see lowering commissions and finding creative ways to cut into the hard working affiliate earnings. Perhaps instead cut out the high forum and conference fees.

On the flip side, we see some programs offering incentives to raise commissions and bonuses. We need this right now. Kudos.

    Hi Mojo

I entirely agree (what a shock)

Things is my issues are with sportsbook affilaite programs, the few casino ones i have started with like Rewardaffiliates have done a great job with me so far, Renee as an example has been wonderful.

My market is also Europe mainly so the UIGEA does not really effect me as such which makes this even worse because the sportsbook programs in Europe have ZERO reason to be behaving the way they are, not all of them but some.

But i am going to do a wholseale drop of them come the 1st of next month, seriously dont need their crap anymore and so will only deal with what i consider decent sportsbooks.

Dont need the stress, dont want the stress and wont take the stress.

As of today three will be gone next month, one of which is a bloody good earner, but their loss more than mine in the long run and i will lay terms if they want back like a fixed payment in advanced each month.

I am taking this problem on my way not theirs.

feel a lot better now that i am taking positive steps to eradicate problems

I have no comment. Shaun maybe it's time to support a new team so Martin can stop teasing Arsenal - I know he doesn't do it because I'M a fan.

Things could be worse. I was doing some brick work today and hammered my left hand into the ground. Then I found out my Cat is pregnant, she's been really moody lately.

I washed some clothes and those dam socks just will not go up the stairs all together. No matter how you hold them a pair always falls to the floor.

Have dog finally had someone build me a dog house. Dam thing weighs 500 pounds and yes it don't fit through the gate. Now I have too dismantle part of my fence. I think after all this the dog house is mine. I will use it.

    Wow mate

One of our cats had three kittens this morning, operating on no sleep at this time, was working late last night european time when the Michael Jackson story started to unfold so started watching that, then my server must have gone armageddon on me because its been down all night and most of today.

And when i was about to get some sleep at 7 am this morning the Cat decided that was the time to spit out three little sprogs

So between the cat, server and MJ i have been denied my hard earned sleep, i smell a conspiracy lol
