Why all the fighting among GPWA members??

I have been a GPWA member since as long as I can remember and I can never recall reading so much bickering and fighting and black mouthing of fellow GPWA members than I have seen in the past week.
Whilst i am not saying that the arguments raised in the various forums are not valid....but what is happening to us????
GPWA used to be a pleasure to read, but now I just read post after post of one member screwing over another member and the list seems endless.
Is the calibre of GPWA members going downhill or are people just overly desperate to make money at whatever costs???

I think partly due to the large number of new members, maybe since CAP is no longer a choice along with pressure of dealing with the uigea for so long and the world economy and micro closing to the us and an increase in blackhats and theft and.. and lol

Regardless of the forum and regardless of the people involved if you have almost no moderation or soft moderation then it is going to catch up with you.

I been involved in a ding dong on here but i am far from being the only one and members that have been on this forum far longer than me have had their share of wars so i am not sure it can be put down to new members or even too many members.

What i do know and i have said this publicly and in private is that this forum does need to be far stricter, we had a poll that clearly said that and yet insults and all sorts continue unabted more or less.

When humans are involved arguments happen its as simple as that, christ even congress and the British parliament have moderators with power and these people run our countries.

If they cannot be expected to have debates without passions getting out of control is it not a little arrogant of us all to think that we can.

I have seen this kind of animosity many times in many forums, and I have had some personal fights.
For some reason we are not nice for some people and viceversa, and some times a single word is enough to start the war.

The contenders are not the problem.

The problem is when others begin to comment on a matter that does not concern them, and that is why a simple discussion turns into a drama.

Next time if you're not directly involved do not post and all will be fine in just a few posts.

I don't think its just here. The whole net seems heavier with tension IMHO.

For reasons mentioned and I know at least one case where IMHO ... one party is clearly right while the other is clearly wrong ... and there's prob more than one.

Its understandable when the party that is in the right ... may get a little loud when they've obviously reached a level of frusstration which would have caused them to have to go public against another member ... anyway.

I very much appreciate what Daniel said and agree but with the caveat that I would suspect there are such times it reaches a point where if you're going public with a dispute then you've already past the point of keeping it between the two disputing parties. In other words you're wanting the opinions of other members (in fact I'm certain that in at least one case right now the two disputing parties both agreed to abide by the decision of a mediator ... chosen from the membership or management of the GPWA).

While such situations will likely lead to some heated discussions .. its still good that the 2 parties can have some place they can come ... have their say ... and know that by the shear number of the membership ... that it is unlikely they will encounter a situation where everything is one-sided because the other party has more friends at the forum.

If people here see something amiss ... they're going to point it out and it won't matter who it is ... if you don't believe that .. see the current thread where Mr C and I are discussing Casino City's choice to link to rogue casinos.

I felt completely comfortable speaking up against that decision ... I don't know what others' chimed in on it about because I can't find the dang thread lol.

Debate is healthy and often leads to positive change. What I see happening too often here lately is the debate turning into a flame war. See the Slotmom thread or the BigDaddy thread for examples.

What I also noticed is that "new" members are joining the forum just to participate (flame) in one particular thread. They usually disappear as soon as they've done their damage. Again, look at the two threads I mentioned above.

We also have a very small group of regular (long standing) members who delight in derailing threads and turning them into flame wars. This is inevitable with a forum of this size.

Michael and his staff have an incredibly difficult job walking the fine line between allowing us our freedom of speech and moderating the most offensive posts. I don't envy them. I think Michael is doing an outstanding job. I also think he needs to toughen up on the most obvious trouble makers.

Regardless of tenure, all members deserve to be treated with respect. Those who only join the forum to bash a member or stir the pot need to be banned... no questions asked. Many of these new members are not even webmasters! What are they doing here besides stirring up the ****?

Let's remember why we all joined this forum in the first place... to learn, to grow our businesses and to share our knowledge with those who have the same goals in a professional, respectful environment.

If they are not making a positive contribution, toss them out with the trash, we don't need or want them here causing distraction and chaos... none of us want to read or participate in topics that deteriorate into name calling and mud slinging between two or three members with long histories of animosity.

If the members' don't moderate themselves and show respect to each other, Michael must become a more active moderator or risk losing his most valuable members.

I totally agree with all of you, I have been one of those that flamed another.

I agree things need to stay on topic, For my part I am sorry to all.

I do want to say though, Before any of us post about an issue, We should all have the decency to first make contact with the person confirmed and makes sure they are aware before publicly shaming them.

I agree but also consider many major changes that occurred this year. CAP being one of them, the muzzles are off and we are speaking our minds. I think many of us had tons of bottled up thoughts, emotions and are now releasing. Healthy therapy IMO and I don't expect the rants to last to much longer. Soon it will be back to business.

This would certainly curb the senseless babble and flames that go on without any interjection. When the battle goes insane it is time to break out the S.W.A.T. team and restore order. You cannot close your eyes and hope it goes away.

I have been a member of forums that do allow editing and ones that don't, and although bickering happens at both, i have to say it happens far less when you can't edit your posts.
For genuine members nothing would change they just post as normal, but the ones who perhaps have other motives will have to stand by what they said.

I think we should be able to edit posts, in case of typos. I make lots of typos. But maybe we should only be allowed to ability to edit our posts for a short period of time.

I also have to say that when I take a step back and read this thread I am pretty gob smacked - The people on this forum are in the majority educated succesful entrepreneurs who have got families, friends and sometimes kids BUT here we are talking about something soooo simple - human interaction!!!

Common decency to individuals, respect for opinions, politeness, and a little bit of decorrum - Honestly its really as simple as that - If you have managed to get through life, set up a business, etc. you should know these basic skills by now so use them - Just because its online and people can't see you doesn't give you a right to act any differently

If someone is rude, agressive, or simply arguing give them a warning - After three warnings give them a holiday - This is nothing to do with free speech, just common sense that you would get in the real world
